Basically 3 friends and i are doing a huge road trip around europe at the end of febuary. the plan is so far to buy a landover 110 station wagon 300 tdi and travel through europe seeing as much as we can. we have all put 6 grand in the kitty and plan to buy the land rover for around 5 grand and do it up abit and kit it out for camping etc . the rest will be spent on supplies, petrol, insurance etc.!
the route is mostly likely to be
London
Paris
bordeaux
lisbon
santiago de compostela
marseiles
milan
trieste
zagrab (croatia)
Montenegro
Istanbul
Varna (bulgaria )
Budapest
vienna
munich
prague
warsaw
vilnus ( lithuania )
Riga ( lativia )
Tallinn (estonia )
Helsinki
nordkapp (norway )
stockholm
oslo
goteborg
amsterdam
brussels
paris
HOME !
I know this will be a HUGE trip and quite expensive , but was wondering if anyone had any advice of preparing such a vechical for a long trip or any other points? be it mechanical or just general advice !

IMO weld a small safe into the landy. It'd be a nightmare to lose your passport, insurance docs, health stuff etc.
Also, try to each learn as much as you can of the obvious languages (1 each) - so if you get stuck somewhere, at least as a goup you can make some form of conversation with whichever local you;re begging help from =)

Atomic Gibbon ,
we were already planning on taking a small safe for documents etc but the idea to weld it to the floor is a great one ! thanks..i will pass it onto the boys
We our hoping to do the trip in around 5 months, can anyone recommend things we should definitely do to the landy before we set off? we already have a winch, front a bar, roof rack, 2 spare tyres etc. but what are your thoughts on things like clutches, alternator heavy duty batteries and things like that !
thanks!
btw the trip is about 12,500 miles in total

The Landy will be hell to live with, I'd look at a leggy old Lexus instead, but in any case you'll have huge fun.
My advice : Ignore everyone's advice, just feckin' enjoy yourselves !

The back of a Landy is very cramped and combine that with high seating, low window-line and you have a recipe for a very claustrophobic, uncomfortable trip! Not to mention that being sat in the back you won't really be able to sit and gaze out of the window.

All this planning, tsk.
A mate an I did 15,000mi around the USA in three Months.
Bought a station Wagon, pumped the tyres, put a mattress in the back and
Didn't cross our mind to 'plan' anything !

Agreed. I did similar across Australia a long time ago. We bought a Falcon, brimmed it and set off!Gassing Station | General Gassing [Archive] | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
