Dear Hornet

It is now almost 2 years since you purchased your new Mazda 2 from xxxxxxx Mazda and we trust it continues to meet, if not exceed your expectations
Why yes, as a fancy shopping trolley for the mrs it's a great car, thanks! Good choice!

Mazda Dealer said:
Nevertheless, age and mileage do mean increasing costs, which in turn prompts the question, "Could this money be better invested towards the exchange price of a later vehicle?"
Erm, it's cost us fk all. Not even tyres yet. And what about the legendary reliability? It's not let us down yet. What are these costs?

Sales were great, service wouldn't pricematch a dealer 20 miles away for the first service so guess who got our custom?

Mazda Dealer said:
Besides our range of stunning new Mazdas, we also have a comprehensive selection of pre-owned vehicles, I'd be delighted to show you some of the choices available
Wait what? You just told me my 2 year old Mazda was effectively a money pit. You want me to swap it for another one?

Interestingly, we got the same letter from them when the car was 1 year old!!

Do people actually fall for this tripe?

I've had chuggers who have made more sense than that. A dealer suggesting that a 2 year old, low mileage Mazda could start to become a moneypit is pretty stupid.

Phone them up and ask for a trade in price as their letter has worried you, and tell them that you've got your eye on a used TVR that you think you could afford if their trade in offer was generous enough.

I don't know, but sales & marketing bods feel compelled to try anyway.

It's just the same in my industry, my boss Glen, and me and my colleagues Dave & Rachel write up similar such stuff for the odd mailshot, or advertorial. It fair makes me cringe hehe

Or the multiple records that get created on the database each and every time you have any work done, and you get three or four identical letters at a time for each mailshot. It must cost a fortune for a no hit.

This is the thing, it's a very odd sales pitch to start at the point of suggesting your 2 year old motor with 15k on the clock is about to fall to bits!

Even if they get one fool who, for whatever reason, believes what they're saying, it'll have been worth it for Mazda to try.

I still get sales mail from Renault to my folks address.

Last purchase from Renault was 5/5/2001 !

Arnold Clark also sends out postcards saying :

"[reg number] is due a service/mot , we have booked you in at xxxxxx preliminary time, please call to confirm"

At one point I was getting three of those a year, all for vehicles sold on long time ago !

Whenever we do a mail shot, a good cleanse/purge of the database is a must before we waste our money. But so many companies let all the st ride, year in, year out, and add to it.

I get this from the local BMW dealership. They invited me to a VIP event with a chance to win a car (which is the only reason I signed up for it), and then I got a call from the dealership asking which car was it I was interested in buying and when!

Looking more into the "event" all they were doing was offering test drives and "special prices".

If I had turned up to the event I would have been seriously dissapointed.

I reckon it does work on some people though, a while ago my cousin called me up really excited and proud that he'd been invited to a VIP BMW event to test drive all the new cars....

To be honest.. There are VERY big discounts at the moment on some of the models, really because the Facelifted Mazda2 is coming out in a month or so, so they're trying to get rid of them. They'll obviously say its going to get more expensive, because services do get more expensive, but not overly expensive, and its not just about to fall apart.. Trust me biggrin

I had the same from my local BMW dealer, only signed up to win a car. Anyway, happened to be passing on said weekend so thought I'd take a look. Place was deserted, no mention of a 'special event' anywhere. One of the salesman phoned up a few days later asking if I'd come in and that it was a really big, busy event.

They also insist on sending me flyers every couple of months with details of set price servicing on E46 cars. Sounds lovely except it clearly says 'excludes M models', which they know I have as they service it and have done warranty work on a number of occassions.

BMW dealer again here........about 8 years ago I left a £1000 deposit on a used E46 M3. The receipt clearly stated it was a returnable deposit and not a "part payment". I had to wait 2 weeks to collect the car as I was away on a business trip. Between the visit to pay the deposit and the arranged date to collect the car I had to cancel the deal due to circumstances outside of my control. I rang to inform them of the situation and to arrange the return of my deposit and the salesman got all stroppy and claimed it was a part payment and was not returnable despite the paperwork I had. I hung up on the guy as he was getting quite nasty to think about what to do and then the postman arrived biggrin

In the post that morning was the V5 of the car I was going to buy all neatly completed in my name as the new owner. Gave the Dealer Principal a call the next day to explain the situation and was told to keep the V5 until the cheque he was sending to me cleared and then to return the form to him. In the meantime he was going to have "words" with the salesman wink

Bought a new LR last month, got an email the other day saying: Thank you for your new purchase, will you be buying another new LR next year" or something to that extent.
