Not sure that £60K actually cost that much with all the mods.
However, the serious answer is that they are:
1) Both 4wd
2) Both Turbo'ed
3) Both semi automatics Double clutch boxes
4) Both a bit lardy
5) Both very easy to drive fast in a straight line
The ethos of both cars is far more similar than the Veyron is to the oft compared McLaren F1

I like to think it's because they're both designed to be technological masterpieces. I'm surprised the Lexus LFA isn't mentioned more in the same breath as the GTR and Vey as, while it's not as quick as its price tag suggests it's still a complicated piece of kit.
I suppose it's the same reason why Top Gear lump the Merc E63 in with the american muscle cars - same philosophy of shoehorning a big V8 into a saloon car. Although the Merc has some german cleverness to it.
