Was driving along Riverside tonight, came up to a roundabout, which was clear so I went across (30mph limit). All of a sudden to my left, two neds in a silver 106 (complete with comedy spoiler and fart can exhaust) fly out from over the bridge at somewhere I'd guess between 40-60. They braked hard and skidded, I swerved to the right thinking it was no use, braced myself for the impact. Thankfully they came to a stop quite literally an inch from the passengers side front door of my car, and they looked at me as if to say "wtf?", but quite clearly he should a) not have been going that fast in the first place and b) looked before mindlessly going onto a roundabout. The speed they were going at, they would certainly have been killed, and the 4 of us in my car would have at least had broken arms/legs, quite possibly worse. Hope the little scrote has binned it into a tree sometime tonight, teach the fker a lesson.

Oh yeah, in true PH style, this rant isn't complete yet:

bks st fk wker .

It's to avoid these types of accidents that they deliberately block the sight lines on some roundabouts..... Yeah makes no sense to me either.

Yeah I have noticed that in some roundabouts, but this one was clear as anything, I've driven round it hundreds of times, you can see quite a lot of Riverside (the road I was on) from the bridge, and can definitely see when another car is coming. Sadly boy racers think they are all Sebastien Vettel and their fart can'd 106 is the most advanced machine on the planet. Kinda wish I was in dad's Landie, I wouldn't have felt a thing when a plastic bag Peugeot with a floppy fibreglass bodykit goes into (or under) it.

Sadly I see far too many of these idiots round the Slough area on my commute they zigzag in convoy at silly speed.

What do you do ... Get out of their way - I've tried before blocking them but I get high stress road rage style so decided to get out of the way and ignore it. Also I let a lot of people in from junctions I didn't always do that and found stress levels bubbling up for what a car length or two and literally maybe a minute extra max on the whole commute. Makes such a difference no stress and a much more relaxed commute.

Yeah, normally I would stay out of the way of them, sadly though didn't get much choice here, the roundabout was completely clear when I was going across, he was still coming over the bridge and just went straight out without thinking there was a blue Fiat Panda right in front of him.

Side impact would still be very very nasty even in a heavy landy.

Total dheads. If you took note of the registration and report it to the police. They do take note.

Deep breath and look on the bright side, at least you can generally see and hear the little bds so you know to give them a wide berth.

Yeah suppose so, couldn't be as bad as in the Panda though, he was going quickly enough to pass through it. Sadly didn't get the reg, just had the exchange of swearing, my mate was about to get out and punch them so I drove off, a bit shook up. Yeah will be all eyes and ears for small stty hatches making fart noises around town now.

Which roundabout on Riverside Drive Dan? The one at Duthie Park or the one with the BP next to it? I once witnessed a Barry'd Saxo plough straight over the roundabout at the BP station after failing to see someone coming from his right (and he was going way to fast). He survived; his car did not; which was a bit of a shame because given his attitude towards everyone who stopped to help afterwards, I know between him and his car which one I would have liked to see survive in this world...

So they were able to stop in the distance they could see to be clear? Sounds like perfect advanced driving to me wink

They are currently spending lots of time (probably even more money) ruining the A61 in Leeds and just put a crossing straight of the roundabout (about 5 car lengths) with the A61 and A6120. It too has a wooden centre fence which together with the uncut growth causes a massive lack of safe vision of what used to be a fairly fluid roundabout. This with together with the crossing stopping cars getting on the roundabout is clear causes huge tailbacks, especially at peak times. They also added a crossing half way down the other side of the A6120 DC and kindly dropped the speed limit 30MPH from 70mph(nsl) to 40mph for cars. About half go slower and half go at the old more sensible limit.

Turning off this roundabout to head towards Harewood/Harrogate and they are currently messing about with the central reservation changing the gaps where you can turn round. They should have removed them all and left 1 or 2 main ones in the road instead if loads of turning into minor roads from the outside of a busy dual carriage way with many turns in both directions. Instead they are putting in lots of short filters where people will pull part in and stop when the drivers behind have no idea they will not e out of the way and its going to cause accidents. Never mind that they are cutting into the road upto around 2-2.5 feet. This road is very narrow in parts and it seems by taking some of the road away they are preparing to make it one lane in the future.

I wouldn't be surprised if the designers are the same that messed with the road at the junction at the end of that section of the A61. The ones that moved over an island so that it is ultra tight for buses/coaches etc to get round the corner with the back swinging out over 2 lanes. The ones who made anyone who wants to turn right, have to turn left onto the DC then do a u turn at lights that take so long to change that it is quicker to go to the next gap in the road do a u turn and blast back. Also i have seen coaches have to do 3 and 5 point turns to get round that section as it is too narrow.

Its a shame they cant fk of to another town and fk up their traffic system instead. I guess they don't care what they do as they get paid but they don't have to wait in the queue's and chaos they cause.

Its a shame really as a number of other roundabouts have had obstructions like the one above removed and are now much better, allowing you to make a decision with much more time to spare, improving the flow rate and cutting down pollution.

Oh well, hopefully now labour are not running the show this may stop, unfortunately all the local MP's round here are labour still. Hopefully next time round the greedy people will be given the boot.

And just to make sure that more people are killed, at the approaches to some roundabouts they go one better and also put dirty great yellow lines in the road which are not grippy, so when it is slighly wet out, you struggle to brake in time.....

The Duthie Park one, they were coming over the bridge from Torry. Ouch, never know it was probably the same guy again.

Haha, not quite, it was only because I swerved to the right that there was enough room, it was already on the roundabout. Ideally he should have stopped at the give way line rather than where he did. I doubt advanced driving means keeping your foot on the brake even though they're quite clearly locked as well wink

I have a fairly steep downhill approach to a roundabout here, with said paint.

On damp days, the ABS will kick in almost as soon as you touch the stripes.

they should carry on making them 106's and saxos, albeit with even worse safety ratings. Let natural selection take its course. Hell, skimp on the safety features and put it into the outlandish spoilers, to attract them all.

Yep, although the sad thing is that although many will find a ditch/wall/large, hard inanimate object, others will end up totalling innocent motorists, causing more problems, unless we all buy Volvos. Hmmm, had a good idea for my next toy

It really does beg the question of exactly who the hell produces this stuff and what muppet lets them stick it on the road.

And as for ABS, try driving the TVR in the wet and it's an adventure with these lines......

I've nearly lost the back end of the bike more than once on those rumble strips they put on dual carriageways on the runup to roundabouts. Properly bloody dangerous stuff.
