A mate of mine is after a change. I have naturally told him a Eunos with Turbo/SC.

But wants a different motor.

Budget 6k ish

Must be RWD

Fun.

More power than his current mk2 MX5.

Only thing I could think of is a early s2000?

But is 6k scraping the barrel for a reasonable one?

Any other suggestions?

He does not really "get" the 5 he's a point and squirt man. Oooo eeer!

How "ish" is the budget - you're very nearly in early boxster territory there - a helluva lot of car for the cash

Is 4wd acceptable? An Imprezza would fit the bill if it is.

How much are early Elises these days? Probably no more power than his current car but less weight, so the effect is the same.

If he doesn't "get" the MX5, I can't imagine him getting the Elise.

TVR S3C.

Actually pretty reliable, feels quite quick in a straight line, sounds ballistic anywhere, handles very well if setup properly (in some respects better than the '5) and you could get a mint example for about £5k. I was left somewhat cold from owning an MX5 and the TVR worked for me...

I have suggest an Elise but again feel it would be wasted on him.

The budget could stretch to 7 but then it has to be super reliable.

Fair enough, I didn't spot the OP's last line.

In that case, how about something silly like an S-Type R?

Can just about stretch to a TVR Chimaera at that budget. Very RWD!

Now that sounds awesome.

How much is it going to bankrupt him at that price though?
