Non Recorded Damage Buying??....

Right so the girlfriends cars has packed up and need to get a new one, spent all weekend moving her into a new house in a new area for a new job so money is rather thin on her front. Looking to get the best deal possible for a good runner and think this may be the way forward...

I am a very technical person with several restorations of MGB's under my belt i have no fear of a little body or chassis work and have been thinking that the cheapest way to get a car for her is to by one like this....

Missed this one on the weekend, was driving but this is surely got to a good direction to go?

Anybody know of any others similar to this or any alternatives or options to be considered...please let me know, any help is appreciated

Although what you may find, is that by the time you've pissed about, buying parts, getting the car back from wherever, fixing the damage, it works out almost if not more expensive than buying an undamaged car!

As Hora mentioned, it,s the unseen damage that costs on salvage.

If you are looking for a motor on the cheap then salvage can be great, if you are prepared to wait for the parts to become available, if you are working to a time scale then it's the dealer bought parts that will kill it.

A battered 100,000 mile 206 which needs bumper/rad/wings/bonnet, and a pretty much complete respray??

These are very good points to consider, the time frame to get the parts would be constricted and buying parts from the dealer would just not be an option. The point about pulley damage on such a car is has got me thinking that only cosmetic damage, dents and scrapes is about as far i i should go.

Not a qualified mechanic...far from it just an enthusiast that doesn’t shy away from a challenge and greasy fingers!

This has given me plenty of food for thought

Just trying to find something that will be reliable and picking up a car with light damage enables you to get an engine with half the milage for the same price!!
