i do watch 5th gear, but only because its about cars.
top gear could be about trains and planes and it would still be worth watching.
im not saying i hate top gear.i don't think i have ever missed one.im just thinking would u call it a car program anymoretop gear could be about trains and planes and it would still be worth watching.
yes it may feature:
a star (in a reasonably priced car)
racing trains / planes / jet skis ...... against cars
comedy items.... in or about cars
travel features.... in and about cars
it's car based entertainment, a car show of restricted seriousness
Top gear. As someone above said, it could be about trains or whatever and it'd still be entertaining. As long as you don't look at is at a programe purely about cars, and as an entertainment program which is set around cars, then you can enjoy it.
5th gear just annoys me. I think it's mainly the bad editing, lack of flow and motley crue of presenters. And quite frankley, I don't want to see a showdown between a Kia Dogsoupwagon and Hyundai Catfriedrie.

just stick to reviewing cars properly, with they actually do quite well.

^^^This. Although i would say the first 5th Gear of the new series last Friday was a lot better than usual.5th gear just annoys me. Both as there is nothing else on anyway.
Top Gear I now watch to spot the abhorrent cheating, bad editing, lies and deceptions and the merest crumb of fact while being totally surprised as they spin tyres, drift and trash cars in a manner any real petrolhead would probably not. I don't find the morons presenting it funny or entertaining but it's about equal to The Sun motoring column in terms of content ie it's there so I'll read/watch it.
5th Gear is generally fairly dull but makes a stab at reviewing a car in as much detail as 3 minutes will allow. let's face it, TV is a shallow medium, conveeying no real information and really not much in the way of entertainment.
I tend to Sky Plus both and wind on when it becomes irritating.

Fifth Gear annoys with its lack of content - Half the show is what's coming up next and the competition. Add in a bit of Tiff and Plato drifting, a comparison of two ordinary cars, a crash test that teases you with the moment before impact many times... and then repeat!
(although admittedly I have not seen any of the new series or much of the last. I didn't even know it was back!)

do you prefer to watch Mr bad teeth/shouty/ignorant/buffoon/fix it with a hammer ,Mr floppy hair and Mr short-arse......none of which can drive to save their lives
or the two racing drivers?
+ new addition (stig).. so that's actually 3 racing drivers
I watch both but fifth gear is the only one on series link
the top gear specials are fantastic though..but week in week out I chose Fifth gear

te. Cardboard presenters and naff articles. I persevered with it for too many years and have now given up.
