Do you have launch control on your car?

So after much reading up on my car and launch control...empty road tonight, car warmed up, tyres warmed up, DSC off, Sport mode on and....mash the pedal!!
Revs spun round to 4-5k, tyres started spinning and then car catapulted forward automatically changing into second despite being in manual mode. Was very very quick :-)
My immediate reaction was to do it again but I value my clutch, gear box and tyres too much!!

I have it on my M6 which I bought new in 2006. Not being a frequent F1 driver doing standing starts, I have never actually used it, despite form a lot of hard driving with the car. I just never really got the thing. I tried it on a demo Porsche PDK turbo last year on a track. It just seemed a bit unnatural somehow, as you have to think about engaging the thing, so its not spontaneous........

Most modern cars have it as it's easy and cheap for the electronics to do. It also helps produce somewhat false performance figures for glossy magazine articles.If you visit the drag strip often, as many do in the USA then it has more meaning. In the UK less so. Although I often do full bore starts in my car but I don't have and wouldn't use launch control. Too much faffing about and by the time you'd have pushed all the buttons you could be 1/8 or 1/4 of a mile down the road already.

You can get software that allows you to set your own first gear rev limit in the later Evos, the effect is that the turbo will spool whilst the revs are held at the ideal rpm for launching. 
It's interesting when you get too much power to the wheels on a slippery surface - all four wheels spin and the car can even move diagonally sideways rather than forwards!
