Video: Mercedes SLS GT3 Racer On Track

If you've haven't got 20mins to watch it, leave it playing for the sound...

If you think that AMG's race-prepared SLS Gullwing looks like the dog's danglies, wait until you've heard its 6.3-litre V8 bark, growl and roar around the the Lausitz Eurospeedway in this awesome test video.

It's a whole 20 minutes of unadulterated action from the track, with all angles covered including pit stops, in-car action and lovely lingering shots of the racer's impressively detailed cabin.

Bernd Schneider and Thomas Jäger are the drivers charged with testing duties, and while it's a movie in which not much really, you know, 'happens' - what the hell else are you doing this morning that's so important? (Go on, we'd really like to know...)

Rules in Formula one should be that all F1 cars sound like this not just the pace car..

So much better sound.

I love the comment:

The focus pulses because your camera is going to have an "eargasm" XD

"eargasm" is now in my vocabulary smile

Oooooh, that does sound good. What is that's different about the German V8s that gives them the frantic 'metallic' induction noise? It's absolutely brilliant, just about my favourite noise of all time!

It's really nice to see MB back into sportscar racing - I thought we wouldn't see them again for a long, long time after '99. And with all the truly superb metal now available to GT3 regs, it really makes you wish that British GT would get some new life breathed into it.

Anyway, my contribution to Germanic aural loveliness:

presumably for the datalogging transponder sending test information back to the engineers in the pits.

ETA - having rewatched the video - the aerial seems to have a bent tip - looks like it could be a pitot type sensor or a thermocouple sensor or something like that?

Either that or it is just so he can get the shipping forecast.... wink
