I've sold said car to a young lady and she is struggling with the clutch.

I wouldn't have put it quite so harshly but he's right about getting used to it, you'll adapt pretty quickly and after that you won't even notice (unless you try left braking ). I've got an on-going problem with my left knee and even with the relatively heavy clutch on both my previous Imprezas I would only really have a problem if the knee was having a "bad day" - I do remember one time I had managed to trash the knee (again) while snowboarding and had to drive back doing as few gear changes as possible

Sorry but I was being serious. I've not be in a 172 so I don't know how heavy or light the clutch is. It would amaze me somewhat if it is truly heavy as most modern and/or small cars I've driven all have really light fluffy feeling clutches. However by my own admission I'm used to tractors, Land Rovers and classic cars.

If it is really heavy in the Clio then maybe something is not quite right in which case the answer is yes, it probably can be made lighter.

One of my mates drove home from a football practise with a broken ankle, at the time hoping it was only (severely) bruised. Got home with as few gear changes as possible, assessed the damage and then had his dad take him to hospital to get his mashed ankle fixed.

Mine is alot heavier than my gf's 1.2. I hurt my knee at work once and struggled to drive home.

The clutches are fairly heavy, heavier than any of the other cars I've driven (possibly other than my mates old Defender 90). I was driving a 1.9 Vectra diesel company car the other day and getting back into the Clio the first thing that struck me was how much heavier the clutch pedal is in the Clio.

Years ago I had a Nova GTE and the standard clutch in that was heavier than the paddle clutch in my GT4, not sure about the 172 though, maybe ask on a clio forum to compare it.

Yes. Well mine certainly did. Not very noticable when you live with it day to day except if you get caught in heavy stop/start traffic when feeling tired. Drive another car for a while then go back and it feels very heavy though.

They are quite heavy compared to a 1.2 or something, and can get tiring in traffic. You'll get used to it.

I'd check on a Clio forum but if its like many similar cars I've owned once the cable gets worn it get stiffer.

It is quite heavy, defintely not light, or fluffy. My mother and girlfriend are not huge fans of it, but like already said you do get used to it. It also has a very narrow and quite high bite point, which can take a bit of getting used to. The first time both my girlfriend and mother drove the car they stalled it numerous times on a short journey across town

Ok, so tell her to stop being such a girl about it.

Mate, I would suggest you tell her theres very little you are aware of that can help, and she would most likely get used to it after a good few weeks driving it.

DO NOT say anything else other than this...you need to be a little weary of buyers after they purchase the car off of you.

My 182 had a heavy clutch, but then realised I was just used to my g/f's citroen which has a clutch so light you could blow on it to change gear.
