Gran Turismo 5 Release Postponed - Again

Living-room petrolheads must wait a little longer...

A GranTurismo in, er, Gran Turismo
A GranTurismo in, er, Gran Turismo
Gran Turismo 5 is vying for the dubious honour of 'most delayed computer game ever', with news that its latest scheduled release date of early November has been pushed back to 'sometime before Christmas'.

The eagerly anticipated fifth iteration of the iconic PlayStation racing simulator had originally been slated for release in summer 2008, then March 2010, then November.

With such delays, one can't help but draw odd parallels between Kazunori Yamauchi, GT's creator and a legendary petrol head, and Guns 'N' Roses frontman Axl Rose - whose last album, Chinese Democracy, took almost a decade to complete. Let's hope Yamauchi-san doesn't take that long. Although from the sound of it, he's pretty embarrassed about the whole thing.

"Apologies for the delay," said Yamauchi via Twitter. "It's because time and labour were spent ironing the kinks out of [the game's] complex system. I'm really sorry. Everyone, it's inexcusable... Wait a little longer."

You could start doing a SOTW for the computer games section.

Duke Nukem Forever has to be the longest spent in development hell. Yet that's scheduled for next year now!

Strongest rumour atm is Sony are forcing all games to run firmware 3.50 to stop the jailbroken ps3s running them, and GT5 was compatible back to 3.41. So they had to add that in, but all the disc pressing places are full up so they have to find a new slot to print 7 million+ copies. Hopefully the delay isn't too long.

Given all the delays, if this isn't the best computer game in the history of consoles then it will be a massive massive disappointment.

It would have probably been wiser of not setting a release date at all.

Do you think they'll throw in a new PS3 with each copy as sort of compensation? I'm holding off buying a PS3 until GT5 is out.

If they're delaying this in order for it to be a PS4 game then i'm gonna pop over to Japan and give the man a box of fists or, if i'm feeling generous, a round of slaps.

This is the Duke Nukem Forever of racing games. Most people I know aren't even bothered about it anymore.

I agree, Forza 3 is better than the as yet unreleased game. That made it to market within 730 days of its planned release! GT5 has failed that hurdle.

This is taking the piss, I dont own a PS3 and have no plans to acquire one for GT5, but if I did I would be going balistic at everyone. I know people are screwing because Codemasters rushed F1 2010 to market full of bugs, but a buggy yet fun game is better than no game at all!
