number plates that look stupid

I may be in a minority here but there seems to be lot of number plates around that don't quite say what they're meant to. What I mean is I've seen several plates that are close to their owners names but not quite there: GIBON (someone called Gibson), DIONA (Donna) , etc etc. If it's not quite right it just looks odd.
On the other hand I've also seen FATSO and DIMBO which are quite good but I wouldn't want them!
Is it better to have a plate that's 'nearly there' or just a bog standard one?
