Trying to buy a winter hack

Is anyone else doing this?
I've set myself a budget of about £300 to get anything with an MOT until about feb. That's the plan but even with those few pennies I still keep looking for something interesting! Polo breadvan, million-mile-merc, mk3 escort, etc.
Which is made doubly hard by the fact I'm in Norwich! Very nearly bought a jag at wymondham auctions, but it went for £350. Flash swines!
Any ideas?
Or offers, if that's not breaking the PH rules.
