I noticed this today with a couple of cars I was looking at. They were both around 500 more at the dealer. MR2 was around 1500 online compared to 1995 on site and an mx5 was priced similarly. Apart from the obvious attempt to get more for their cars is there another reason for this?

Pretty rubbish way of doing business. Even if I thought the higher price was worth it, I wouldn't buy from them for wasting my time, and I would let them know about it.

My thoughts exactly. The online price is the right price when looking around. He wanted 1850 for a 98 mx5 with a roof that had holes in, 93000 on the clock. 1500 is a bit steep but at least negotiable.

I viewed a car that was actually advertised for more online than it was on the forecourt. £695 to £595 IIRC. Caused some confusion when I rang to enquire about it.

Dealer was a crook anyway hehe

I have always assumed that it is a 'stupid tax' if you blindly walk into the showroom you pay (or at least start negotiating from) the higher price.

If you shop around on the net then you get the lower price - just like comet etc do in there stores / website.
