Yes another what car thread, just looking for options as to what to spend 3-4k on. I don't do a huge amount of miles anymore really, but want something that is nice (think leather, air con etc) and reasonably quick (doesn't need to be stupid, I have an R6 for getting to 70 mph really really quickly).

I am 21 (22 in 12 days so say 22) and am prepared to pay around a grand for insurance (I know this is hard to judge but just to say I don't want a 1.2 2005 Corsa).

Current thoughts...

E46 325i
E46 330
E36 328is

These are all BMWs I know... I like BMWs but just wondered what else people would suggest?

You did say you wanted leather and luxury wink

Gold cars aren't really my cup o'tea neither, but the S-Types are pretty wafty.

Considering your shortlist and the comment above, I think you've got your answer then wink

Personally I think the E46 is handsome enough as a coupe and it fits your requirements in terms of leather, air con, etc; but ultimately they're not a particularly exciting prospect. If you must have an E46, you might want to consider the 328. It wasn't in production long but might prove easier to find than a decent 330 for £4k.

As ever, there's the MX-5 - you could get a Mk2 or Mk2.5 with leather, air-con, 6-speed box, LSD, etc for that kind of money.

There's the Clio 172/182 if you need more practicality - not particularly nice looking or hard-wearing but very well equipped and good fun to drive.

Hmm, I'm not sure that a 4.0 V8 wouldn't be ruinious on insurance... oh yes it HAS to be a manual!

Well im 21 and pay £1150 with churchill. Low risk area, 2 yrs no claims and had licence 4 years.

Not sure how my stats compare to yours but just a rough idea of possible insurance figures.

Oh and its a 4.4 not a 4.0 wink

have you checked the insurance on these?

these are all group 16+ cars. i'd be very suprised if you could get the insurance anywhere near a grand on them tbh

Just ran a 330 through go compare and came out at around £1300, be able to get that down over the phone I would have thought.

Me as the only driver, TPFT.

My Mrs wants to be insured on my car but she is Polish and has a Polish driving licence as well which might complicate things though.

I'm guessing he knows how to get an insurance quote (ie. shopping around and choosing insurers that have young drivers as a target market), rather than being one of the spanners we get on here complaining that they've got a quote for £4000 for a corsa because that's what came up on some poxy comparison site like confused.com.

For the record I'm paying £900 on an MR2 at 21, in my name, with 0NCB. I think I did try a comparison site at the time and it came up with a silly quote.

And also, that BMW looks lovely.

reason I asked, because I personally wouldn't get a car at this kind of value range without getting fully comp, which is why I was surprised at price.

I managed an FTO at 22 with 0NCB fully comp, so I know it can be done.its just difficult :P

but on another note, that means there are a lot more cars in your price range.
