I travel all over the country on a regular basis, using the M62, M6, M60, M1, & M25 aswell as 'A' roads such as the A14, A50, A1(M1). Has anyone else noticed how the "Middle Lane Moron" has tired of life in the middle lane, and chosen to take up position in the outside lane!!

The money that is being spent in widening the motorways should be used on driving education, because no matter how many lanes you give to the fkwits, they will immediately head for the outside lane!!

It is now at the point where if you drive and use the lanes correctly the OLM's think that you are an idiot. Please can someone offer a foolproof solution????

More patrol cars to provide "education" on the motorways

Unfortunately the increase in MLM leads to more OLM - those who keep left unless overtaking are a dying breed

Seconded. Works for millions every day.
And 'driver education,' just doesn't work. People are lazy and unobservant a lot of the time and putting up TV adverts saying,

"Don't be such a cock, move over," isn't going to make a lot of difference.

On hilly parts of the M5 (in north Somerset at least) 3 lanes become 4 by creating a new inside lane. At the top of the hill the outside two lanes both merge which causes two problems...

1) two "fast" lanes are trying to merge
2) MLMs are now in the 3rd\outside lane

Why couldn't they merge the two "slow" lanes instead?

I think that say 50% of Highways Agency Officers should be taken and made into Terminators. Instead of using a Vauxhall filled with plasters and traffic cones they're equipped with 12 Gauge, and chopper. Can robots be prosecuted for man slaughter?

Until Britons get rid of the 'I'm not moving over for any fker, especially you' mentality, it's sadly here to stay.

Too many people trying to out do each other in this country. It's like a disease.

Because, technically, you are wrong. It's a dangerous move. The morons should move over, though.

I call this "Lane Fear" where the offending driver will stick in lane 3, worried they will be unable to rejoin should they move into the empty lanes 1 and 2.

This is commonly observed on the M4 most mornings. I find myself undertaking, mostly unintentionally as the traffic concertinas in lane 3.

In every way, not just on the road. The ego is great, eh. Well, I say the ego, I mean my ego is great. Yours sucks. wink

Because there is generally more traffic using the inside lanes. The problems that the bunched up groups of cars in the outside lanes have are usually caused by their lack of anticipation/inability to read road signs with the car in front entirely filling their view/some sort of imbued belief that the lane would not have the tenacity to end before THEY have finished with it.

I see this every day on the 30 mile shlep to work. Minding my own business on the dual-carriageway, and as far as the eye can see, its a long chain of cars in the outside lane, not one of them bothering to obey the highway code and KEEP LEFT.
Leaves miles of inside lane for me to get to work quickly smile

I'd rather see money being used on TV 'highway education' commercials highlighting the importance of using the correct lanes.Correct lane usage and better spacial awareness is what is needed to keep our traffic flowing on our ever congesting roads. High profile posters and better education for new drivers will help, give the police the power to give 3 points and £60 fine accompanied with video evidence rather than giving it to drivers 5 mph over the limit but driving with care.
Yes i admit i do undertake with caution, you'd be quite unlucky to be side swiped by a MLM as the only time they use the left lane is when they take their exit slip, so caution undertaking near junctions should be observed.
It is amazing how MLMs never seem to understand other road users frustration with them, when people are passing either side, flashing headlamps behind and constantly being 'cut up' by angry drivers. It just never seems to register with them, they probably think everyone else are just idiot drivers.
Unfortunately i think MLMs are here to stay unless some drastic measures are implemented.

Don't undertake, it is bad. Just pass on the left which is perfectly aceptable as long as you can show you where just going with the flow of traffic. It doesn't just apply in traffic jams FFS.

Well, indeed. There's undertaking and "moving faster in this lane". wink

Section 137 & 138 of the highway code refers.
Learners should be reading the highway code to ensure they are fully conversant with the rules of the road.
Hence you, and all other holders of a driving licence, actually have been advised of the keep left rule.
