Winter tyres

Forecasts of another crappy winter, got me thinking about winter tyres.

I've got a front wheel drive car, would fitting just winter tyres to the front be of any advantage, or would this cause a grip imbalance? Would it even be legal?

Any advice appreciated.

I really can't be arsed with winter tyres. If the conditions are honestly that horrific, I'll stay at home and wander around the house in my pants.

In short:

OP - NO. 4 winter tyres or none. On snow / ice winter tyres offer 50% more grip, so which ever end does not have the winter tyres will do what it likes

Above - AWD is just as useless as 2wd if you're on the wrong tyres.

Above - AWD is just as useless as 2wd if you're on the wrong tyres.

Yes but if you are a skillful driver you can over come all these issues and it doesn't snow here plus everyone lives in London and uses the tube....
