hello PH

I drive a wee skoda fabia. Unfortunately sometime in the last couple of days while
it's been parked outside my house (parked on a one way street, mostly only used for parking by residents), some twunt has decided to drive into it.
It is now sporting a nice big green scratch on the drivers side doors, with a bit of a dent as well.
think they must have reversed into it whilst trying to parallel park as my wing-mirror was unharmed.

they also very kindly decided that i didn't need to know their contact/insurance details and that they
would just leave.

they did however leave some trim behind (don't know for definite that it was from their car/van but don't see where else it could have come from. I found it just by my front right tyre)
I've had a walk down the street to see if any on the blue/green cars had any scratches on them, i didn't find any.
Anyway i know it's a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone could identify the piece of trim they left and what car/van it might come from to aid me in my search.

many thanks.

Doesn't look familiar to me. Are there no logos or numbers stamped into it?

Unlucky mate, the bit of trim looks like a fog light surround to me.

Sorry to hear that some inconsiderate tcensoredt has damaged your car and decided to drive off.

Looking at that bit they left behind, initial thoughts pointed to a fog light surround but I'm not sure the kind of damage you mention would leave trim from that low down.

Hopefully the PH Detectives will unearth the culprit so we can stone him/her. Sorry I wasn't much help.

I was thinking foglight surround too. I want to say Ford but looking at models on Google Images is getting me nowhere.

To ebay!

Id say its a ford fog light surround, couldn't put a model on it though.
Good luck.

looks like a foglight surround to me too - but you said it looks like they reversed into you whilst parking?
could be a red-herring, looks very battered and "road worn" (ie been loose for a while).
good luck anyway, sure it'll be identified on here in no time.

Sorry I can't help with identifying it, but maybe you should take a walk around the local streets. If it was someone in your road, they may park their car a bit further away for a couple of weeks, or until they can get it fixed.

You have my sympathy - it's a bugger when that happens.

thanks for your help guys and girls. very kind.
i will look out for green/blue fords now smile although i am starting to think the piece of plastic could be unrelated.
@sunbeam-i think i'll do that tomorrow morning mate.

got a £500 excess on my insurance as well so i'll have to take it to a little garage i know to get a quote, see how many pennies it's going to cost me.

blooming wide road it is as well, there's space for cars to be parked both sides and then for about one and a half cars in the middle (one way road remember), i can see how it could happen on a narrow road but thisone...
which led me to believe that it was probably someone reversing in or coming out of a space and swinging far too wide.

Possibly, Polo front fog light surround. But tbh, I'd expect a VW logo on any part

The way its covered in scuff marks and road rash suggest to me its been lying around for a while, I'd doubt its off whatever hit your car. Post up some pics of the damage to yours, we'll try and work out a bit better what hit you...

Difficult to tell.

Could be a previous model Passat?

Good call!

Looks like it would snap off if they caught the corner of the car on something.

Unfortunately you need to swallow this one whole. Unless you have a cast iron witness who saw the incident and can identify the car by a number plate and can give a good description of the driver the Police will do nothing; even if you do find a smoking gun of a damaged car around the corner.

The more I read these these kind of threads the more I think excess insurance someone recommeneded here is a great idea.
