Hi,

Anyone ever played with Rivnuts?

I have to fit just 4 into the roof of my Range Rover to fit the Dog Guard mounts. They are proving a real b**ch to fit.

I know there is a proper tool, but I can't really justify spending £30 or more just to fit four rivnuts.

Has anyone got any handy tips on how to do this without a specialist tool, can I just use an M6 nut and "wind a gap" to crimp it?

Or, do you know where I can get a cheap M6 rivnut tool?

Have a look on ebay - search for "locost" and you will find someone selling a rivnut tool for about a tenner - I haven't tried one so can't comment on how well they work, but he seems to have sold a few now.

I too couldn't justify buying the special tool.

I used Araldite to fix the new inserts into the fibreglass on my Esprit.

Seems to have worked.

I've since seen the tool in the shops for £15....

Cheers

Pat.

I found that tool on ebay - very Heath Robinson but obviously does the job.

Being the impatient little git I am I've actually just done it with the help of a neighbour and an M6 nut. I butted the nut up against the rivnut and rotated the nut againt the bolt to draw down the rivet. Wouldn't want to do it for more than 4 of them, but it did it!

A hex-headed M6 bolt, nut, ring-spanner and socket-set were all I needed...

with regards to where to get them, when I was searching google I found quite a few people in the UK that sold both rivnuts and kits, most seemed to be kitcar related. Maybe the guys in the Ultima forum can tell you where to get some. As a concept they are very cool...
