Buggeration and a**ewipe frown

Just been done for not having a tax disc. Never received a bloody renewal notification and I never check the disc on the car because I am so used to getting a reminder through the post.

The first time I've ever done this. Bugger.

I know - it's my responsibility to check, but I'm stil pissed off frown

Nearly happened to me this month. Then i found out i didn't have a car insurance certificate (sent to my old address) so it was all a bit hectic, though at the worst you can just leave it on the driveway for a few days?
Stick it in your Outlook calendar - especially if you have more than 1 car it's so easy to forget.

I know the feeling. I had a £80 fine last week. And my car was in storage at the time. Didnt cut much ice with the DVLA

I've just renewed online using the reference number on the VS05, and I believe that you still have a grace period after buying the tax list before receiving it that you can use the car.

Yep, that's the problem. More than one car between us so we always rely on the reminders coming through. As you say - reminder on outlook/phone from now on.

I did that accidentally last year, missed three months. But I seem to remember calling them up and it didn't cost much more than just paying for the tax I had forgotten to pay.

Why don't you take the DVLA to court?

My fine is £133, but in all fairness I've got off bloody lightly - the disc expired at the end of May! OK, I've hardly used it since then (only using it now as my Tiv is in the garage and they didn't have a courtesy car at the time I wanted to drop it off) but the fine is only £50 or so more than the unpaid tax.

I guess I'm more annoyed at myself.

OP said he knows it's his fault. He just relied on the reminder, didn't say it was DVLA's fault for not sending it through.

Yeah, I read that bit about not getting a reminder... But w hy mention it if the DVLA or Royal Mail aren't to blame? He knows it's his fault but still wants to use the disclaimer that he didn't get a reminder.

TBH, it's a good thing he mentioned it, as i always rely on the reminder. I'll be a bit more on top of things from now on, incase it doesn't come through.

Maybe he wants to express his frustration? Is he not allowed to do that? Who put you in charge of sorting out the right and the wrongs? Are you Jesus?

Do I? Are you sure that I'm using it as a disclaimer? Possibly I'm simply stating the facts. Possibly I'm more annoyed at myself? Oh, in fact I did actually say that in an earlier entry.

Possibly you just like to find fault with other people and their posts? I guess that is as much your perogative as it is mine to post in the first place. But assuming that you understand why people have posted is possibly going a little too far.

So, to clarify and put the record straight;

Fact: I use the system of receiving a reminder from the DVLA as just that - a reminder service.
Fact: I didn't receive said reminder, hence the situation has arisen.
Fact: I'm annoyed that I've just been fined.
Fact: I know that it is my responsibility to check and not the DVLA.
Fact: I'm not blaming any other party.
Fact: I'm irritated at myself for allowing it to happen.
Fact: I am not going to try to wrigle out of it.
Fact: I posted for the same reason that a million others do - I happened to be in front of my laptop and just felt like it.

So, I am not adding any disclaimer - simply stating the facts.

As for modern Britain, maybe your attitude is more an indication of what is wrong. Making assumptions about other people's motives and not listening to any other arguement.

I am also in a bad mood and have a hangover to boot - and yes, am venting my frustration.

I'd say the majority of people wait for/ rely on the reminder before retaxing their car(s)

i have no idea what month my tax expires. can't believe anyone's having a go at the OP about this, especially after admitting it was his oversight!

everything i hate about the 'expanded' PH these days. only the highly witty trend for 'EFAs' is more annoying.

Funnily enough I was thinking the same thing. You generally seem to be very judgmental.

Interesting. Very adult behaviour, I must say.

So, if I follow the implications, you can state an unfounded opinion of me but if I respond in a reasonable manner clearly refuting your allegation I am somehow acting in childish, Reeves & Mortimeresque tit-for-tat way?

Of course, I am only making assumptions about your motivations and don't want to be considered to be joining the ranks of the idiots that do so without first trying to clarify what said motivations are. So by all means correct me on the true reasoning behind posting that picture.

In the meantime, as I do have a life and I've wasted too much time responding to this, I'm off to do get invoved in some face to face conversation.
