Bugger bugger bugger bugger. smile

I've got a car to sell but for the life of me I can't find it's logbook.

The car is insured and I've been to the local DVLA office and managed to tax it, and a replacement log book has been applied for.

I've got someone coming to see the car this afternoon. What's the best way to approach it? The tax disc shows that it has just been obtained, but how can I satisfy a potential new owner that everything is above board. I have to admit that I wouldn't be too happy about buying a car without a logbook myself, but is there a way around this, 'cos I could do with the car gone, and it could take weeks for a new logbook arrived.

PS I've put this in GG and not S,P&L 'cos really I'm after advice as how to satisfy someone that I've made a genuine mistake, rather than looking into the legal aspect of this.

Any help would be gratefully received guys, thanks. thumbup

Get it before you sell it.

My mum gave away a Metro a year or so ago that had been sorn. We'd lost the logbook, but both my mum & new owner wrote to the DVLA explaining the car had been sold; can't remember where exactly, but on some other document or official website this was what was recommended. As soon as the new owner tried to tax it, DVLA sent a letter notifying us someone was trying to tax our car. rolleyes My mum sent back a letter again explaining the situation, that this was what was officially advised and enclosed a copy of the letter. DVLA sent another letter notifying us of a fine we now owed them for can't-remember-what; basically not selling our car in the 'proper' way logbook blah blah blah. hehe 7 or 8 letters later they're still threatening with fine or courts, despite each time my mum sending copies of all previous letters back rolleyes More hassle than it's worth.

Honesty is the best policy, tell person coming to view that you've lost the log book, applied for a new one . . . I'd also be tempted to get a full HPI check on it, as a way of offering some peace of mind to anybody wanting to buy it smile
