Never had the pleasure of driving or being a passenger of a princess but I do have fond memories of the roof covering. ..
Cortina looked great IMHO not too different to the E30.

Did they all have the pinto engine? And the princess the maxi engine which passed onto the maestro

As for the ford it depends which one, MK1 pre-crossflow kent engine, MK2 crossflow and thats the basics without talking about Lotus variants and Savage's

2.2ltr I6 o series engine.

The series 2 princess does move the asthetics on somewhat from the launch model. The matt blue example I have just seen online really does nail it for me that the cortina is superior from every angle
guess engine wise British layland had ford on that aspect and didn't ford have radial tyres as STD?

Tricky, but I reckon you can answer the question this way:

Princess was related to the Austin Ambassador. John Shuttleworth's song about the Austin Ambassador, Y-reg:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LroHr6aOo4&fea...

OR...

Dustin and the "Funky Ford Cortina"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8tdbdRVDR0&fea...

The best song should be the bets car, logically. My vote is for the Austin. Longitutional 6 cylinder engine, you know...

for me it's the mk3 & mk5 cortina which are top of the list.

I'd love an Ambassador, but that said I'd like an Ital too.

sadly it's no cortina but IMHO that's steep I guess it needs quite a bit spent on it to have a reasonable
ode of transport not a shed.

Still doubt you'd lose a penny on it and any repairs would simply increase it's appeal and value.

How good were both cars with demisting?

I have this photo on my fridge. My mother gave it to me with my face cut out and stuck over the top of Johns.
