The OH was checking her credit rating online yesterday and mentioned that car insurance quotes could reduce your score, is this true?

Recently Ive done a fair few quotes as this will obviously have a bearing on purchasing the car or not.

Has anyone else heard of this before?

How could getting a quote possibly affect credit rating? I call absolute BS on that one.

Insurers may use credit systems to check whether they will offer DD or not but the ones my insurer do don't affect your credit score although i can't say the same for other insurers.

I had a quote last week and was told by the chap that it would include a credit score, too many of which will impact your rating.

If you keep applying for monthly instalments and getting knocked back it will. Effecitively you're applying for credit and being refused.

They do appear on your credit file, as do all mobile phone contracts, as I found out the other week wink

Even if they do appear surely they can't have a negative affect on your rating?

Everything on mine showed green, I guess if you elect to pay monthly then miss a payment THEN they would. It seems that even for a quote they do these checks so they can offer you the monthly option.
