I do a lot of miles every week from early in morn to late at night. It makes me laugh when I see a vehicle in the dark with what I call the TomTom GLOW. Just switch to night mode!!! Doesn't it annoy these people?

It's not just the glow, it's the place where some people put it - right in front of their eyes! banghead

This.

The amount of cars that you see driving around with it mounted in the middle of the screen is unbelievable - Surely there is a hugh blindspot created by it?

depends on the car.

Had an argument with plod about this. had tom-tom in middle of screen, but all it covered was my view of the bonnet, so though mr plod was right as it was on the wiper blade radius, practically he was wrong.

One of the features I miss from my old Navman, it used to switch to night colours automatically depending on where you were at the sunrise/sunset times for that area that day. I've got my TT740 setup with a quick button to change but it is a retrograde step.

Can't see a damned thing on it when it's in night mode. So just let the auto dim do it's thing. Doesn't bother me any more than the dash it's beside.

Current TomToms and almost all modern units do the same, automatically switch to night mode, but it's a feature that a lot of people seem to disable.

As for obstructing the screen, I find a lot of customers expect the unit to block a load of their view, but the bottom of the middle of the windscreen is a patch you never, ever look through in normal driving.. How often do you need to see something right at the end of your bonnet? In daylight, no issue at all smile the distraction they can cause and the glow at night, though, different matter..

One of my Navmans redeeming features! Can't understand peoples logic in their choice of sat nav positioning... Mine sits right down in the bottom right hand corner as far out of my line of sight as possible, but still (even in night more) has a small reflection above it in the windscreen... I've seen people with it directly below the rear view mirror, wtf is with that?! These usually tend to me MLMs and the people who like to change lanes without indication and without warning...

I have always bought a Brodit clip set up for whatever car I have ever had. Much better than having it on the windscreen and doesn't leave suction rings.

You really should see an optician about that, then.

I've started putting mine in the middle of the screen, just above the dash. Previously had it in the lower-right hand corner and was continuously having to peer around it to see traffic coming from the right.

Problem is it's a sea of quite dark blue against a sea of dark blue against black. Now if it used some variation in colour with good contrast it might be some use....which is what the day colours are...

Basically a model specific mount which attaches to the dashboard but requires absolutely no damage to be done to the dash, Z4 example which is in exactly the same place as mine (albeit the other side!)...

After you have the brodit mount, you then buy the relevant bit for what you want to mount there, in my case a TomTom.

The TomTom specific bit screws or sticks using sticky pads onto the car specific part in the first picture...

Then when I need to use the sat nav I just slide it onto the mount.

Very tidy.

ETA: A picture of mine, which should show it better. TomTom unit just slides onto it. Windscreen mount only ever comes out of box when I lend it to someone.

Potentially a good idea, but using the Brodit website I should be positioning my TomTom by the gear lever. On the passenger side.

Not sure how I'm supposed to use it down there.

Back to topic (sort of), I think some sat nav owners are convinced they now have an HUD, why else would it be at eye level, directly above the steering wheel?
