If you still own the BMW i'd stick a towbar on that, should get one fitted for £150, less if you do it yourself

We have a Vauxhall Frontera, 1997, 2.5tds San Diego with 6 months tax and MOT til next August if you're interested. Haven't put it up for sale yet but have been thinking about it. Its had 2 new tyres and a new starter motor recently. We're in Northampton.

Important question; what do you plan on towing?

Non-brand name van hire companies usually have a number of transit type vans with towbars for hire. Speaking from experience here, when I've needed to tow without a car with a towbard wink

Significantly less hassle and cost I would assume.

Whether you have a B+E licence makes a difference to what towcar you can legally use

If no B+E
Vehicle max weight + trailer MAM must be less than 3500kg
Trailer MAM must be less than Vehicle unladen weight

I have an Alhambra on a T plate here with the 110bhp engine, if you fancy taking some day insurance and renting it off me fine with me. I have just been to the Lakes with a heavy trailer and its got 12 months mot. I am in Welwyn so not too far from you, and the best bit is that I will throw in a full tank of veg oil (its converted) so you will have free motoring up to about 500 miles.
