Parked at a little shopping precinct tonight, got out of the car, heard a crunch and a car alarm.
Turned round and saw a guy had just reversed his car straight into a parked up Rover.
The alarm on the rover went off, and the guy drives forward, turns the wheel and drives off!
Clocked the car and reg, so left a note under the wiper of the car that had been hit. Superficially, there did not seem to be any damage, but it was night, there might have been. Hope the owner reports it to the police.

BiB are probably too busy catching rapists and terrorists to take an interest

Im sorry if that offends the resident plod but my own experience once again lets you down frown

I witnessed a delivery truck smash into a neighbours car at high speed whilst reversing then drive off pretty recklessly

The car was trashed - there was no question they didnt know
Whilst making good their escape they gave a woman crossing the road with a pram a major scare

I gave my neighbour the trucks reg number, the company logo on the side and a description of the driver

The police were not at all interested

I was left feeling pretty let down
If they wont pursue a hit and run leaving thousands of pounds of damage and a near miss on a ped with a solid witness then what exactly do they do?

Cheers

Why would you bother having an alarm on a rover?

Incase it's stolen.

It could have been a P6 V8.

Not the point. They damaged someone else's property and f*cked off. No excuse. If it had been your car you would have been seething, regardless of what the car was.

This happened to a friend of mine only last week, someone saw a car drive by & knock her door mirror off & left details of the car & reg, & their address. The Boys In Blue were not interested at all, as you say, but she rang her insurance company, they chased the offender down & her car is already at the paint shop.

STOP PRESS - Parking nudge sets off car alarm!

Not.

Unless there's damage this is a complete non-event. You don't prosecute people who bump into you as a pedestrian on a busy street. Same for cars. I very much hope Bib have more important things to do.

To wake you up because they're somewhat yawn inducing to drive.

I agree and I commend your actions. Very community spirited of you which is rare these days.

They wish they could do that. You have to appreciate that the people who join the police force are ex-army morons or just school drop-out morons, or bully victims who think this is their payback scheme.

Really they can't do much apart from hassle easy targets like the young and old who may have a sidelight bulb out or something equally as trivial. I was watching Traffic Cops last night and just thought the Police were an embarassment to the public sector. They had a helicopter and two cop cars after some guy in a Subaru becuase he had stolen a road sign. That means that if a serious crime of the afmorementioned rape or terrorist attack happened, there'd be two cars and a bloody helicopter out of action looking for a road sign while someone gets seriously attacked or something blows up. Well done. Bravo.

Happened to me on uesday night, getting s lift into town from a mate, stopped off at co op and as I got out the car, see a car reverse straight into an astra, and he attempted to drive off.

So I ran out, infront of the car (wasn't going quick) and stopped him, he gets out and says "I only hit the kerb lad" (I hadn't mentioned him hitting anything so he knew...) the owner walks out and sees his astra with broken light and smashed bumper so joins in.

Guy says he was in a hurry so said he would give the guy his mobile number and he'll 'get his mate to fix it cheap '

So I gave lad my details, took pictures and such. Anything I could do to help, would hope others would do the same for me smile

My old dear did this a while ago. She backed out od a parking space and hit another car. She got out and checked for damage. There wasn't any. She went to leave a note just in case, but didn't have a pen. She waited around a while, but no owner returned. So off she goes. Somone saw all this and jotted down her reg, and informed the police. The Police were knocking on her door within an hour, wanting to speak to her about it!
She apologised and told them the story, and that was that.

Do different forces have different criteria, or does it just depend on how busy they are?

Jeeezus, stupidity overload.

So theft isn't a serious enough crime to investigate?
Is it only rape and terrorism that the police are allowed to pursue in your world?
What else would you expect TRAFFIC police to be doing than dealing with issues like this?

Of course it is, unfortunately all you'll probably get though is a crime report number...there's too many naughty grannies doing 35 in a 30 these days, don't you know.

Something similar happened to us recently, and we also had a witness - the police did get involved, tracked the offending driver down who turned out to be an oldie who hadn't noticed they'd slammed into a 2 tonne Land Cruiser smashing their own lights and setting our alarm off.

Last we heard the driver was being reported to DVLA as unfit - I don't know the details or whether her license was taken away.

Just saying the police do sometimes get involved...

However it took perseverance and a lot of patience on our part, and took ages.

Why would you bother making such a silly comment? They came as standard on most of the later models.
