A seemingly odd mix of cars, all good at different things, mostly in different price ranges and all on a sliding scale of likelihood of putting you into a ditch.
If someone held a gun to your head and told you to choose one, which would you have and why? Assuming you keep your current cars, too.

Porsche 996 GT2: 58%
Lotus 2-Eleven SC: 8%
BMW E46 M3 CSL: 17%
Ford Focus RS Mk2: 0%
Volkswagen Golf R32 Mk5: 17%
Porsche Boxster Spyder
More usable than the 2-11, prettier and more special feeling (IMO) than the bimmer, focus RS has halfords stuff stuck all over it, r32 just not special enough and given the choice between a GT2 and a boxter who is going to go for the latter!
The gunman is going to have to pay the runnng costs though

The biggest thing here is the assumption that we can keep our current cars, which in my case are very practical (Elise and 320d), leaving me with room for a toy.
My thoughts:
Porsche 996 GT2: I would love one of these, although I'm not terribly keen on turbocharged cars.
Lotus 2-Eleven SC: This was what I voted for. Everything that Lotus knows about amazing ride and handling in a fast lightweight track package. Heaven on four wheels
BMW E46 M3 CSL: I've driven the standard one and merely thought it was ok. I'm not sure the CSL would be a revelation, although I wouldn't say no!
Ford Focus RS Mk2: A FWD Ford!? No chance in this company
Volkswagen Golf R32 Mk5: 4WD? No chance
I'd buy one for my Mum maybe if the gunman wanted me to choose for her instead.
Porsche Boxster Spyder: I love Boxsters, but I'd rather have the slightly slower one with an electric hood. The Boxster excels at being an all round useable sports car, and the lack of practicality might just tie its shoelaces together.

Good thread this.
I, like many others it seems, deliberated for a fair while over this.
I'm having the Lotus, but I so very nearly picked the GT2. The 'keep your own car' factor swung it for me as I'm already 911-d up.
I was going to mock anyone who picked the RS/R32, but I suppose if you've already got something completely different (eg Elise, Caterfield, something old) they would make a fine daily driver.

t, I'd be looking for this one to replace it in all ways - so I'd want something which was practical as well as fun. Don't like BMWs much, and there's not exactly anything special or interesting about a Golf, so it'd be the Focus for me.
