I have just spent £35 at an indy for resetting a light using a fault code reader.
It is now back and I will get the problem resolved, but I thought I would look at a diy reader / reset device and on ebay they seem cheap. £10 up...
Are they any good?
Current cars are Mitsi Shogun and Merc ML, although the shogun will go in favour of a E class

The cheapy hand held ones are pretty similar, most will only read the codes from the engine controller so if you have faults with the ABS, Airbag controllers etc it wont show the codes. For that you either need the expensive Bosch, Snap-On etc. or some of the enthusiast laptop types like VAG-Com, most of which are model specific.

Looks quite good. Does more than your basic fault reader, with showing some live data and lists a description of what the code means. Most only show the code and then you have to look it up.

I've got s Cheap one from ebay similar to the one on the post above, All works fine, ideal for resetting the ligths after you've replaced a part, brought mine for when i had a volvo and they garage wanted £70 to reset the light after i replaced the MAF..

Cost me £35 and has paid for itself many times over.

try and get one that resets service / abs lights as not all do, and it's usefull if you sercvice your own car.
