Volvo S/V40 vs BMW 316/318.

Purchasing one of the cars fairly soonish.
It's going to be less than 10 years old (2000 onwards), petrol.
Budget is set at 2k.
So for a 300mile commute each week, which option would you guys choose if you had to make the choice?
Volvo V40, S40, S60 (possibly?)
BMW 316, 318. Anything else within this budget that would be worth considering?
