Seems a great thing. No messing about under the car! Easy to use too it seems.

I see the benefit of using this if one was to accidently pour a bit too much oil after doing an oil change. But I wouldn't like to use it instead of removing the sump plug. The reason being, is I don't want all that gunk coming back through my engine.

Quite a good idea though

I had a 12v one which I used to use on my boat as there was limited access to the sump. Agree with the other comments here about it not removing any "gunk" though. Everything will settle at the bottom and you'll struggle to get it all out with these.

On my VR6, the dipstick tube goes straight into the sump. All other cars I've worked on are of a similar design, so the worst that can happen is that the gunk sticks in the dip stick tube - in which case poke the dip stick back in and drain it the old fashioned way.

If I end up going back to an older car that I can service myself, I'll be definitely getting one of these.

I'm thinking of getting one to do "in between" oil changes. Uncomfortable with the idea of oil changes over the 10k miles mark.

I have a Pela 6000 for my boat. Great for that.

I tried it on some of the cars, it seems to work on some, but on others, where the dipstick goes into the filter housing (eg Mondeo Diesel) it will only extract about a litre, as the sump is lower than the low point on the dipstick.
