1375.11. WTF !!!
Discussion
I phoned a well know Telephone and mouse company for a insurance quote for my cheap arse volvo. Now I pay around 600 quid for the Elise (i have 6 pts) and certain insurance company quoted 1300!!!WTF. Where do they arrive at this ridiculous price. I have 9 yrs NCB, I am nearly 40, I don't live in a area that is constantly on fire or is known for its high crime rate. Ripping b

ds. Are the no claims on the other car, in which case its a clean slate quote which might be the problem?
Volvo can be odd too - my V70 was very high insurance sometimes and I struggled to get decent quotes until I had it a yr, then for some reason it came back down to something sensible.
Does seem very expensive though.

They wanted me to fit a tracker to my Elise. So I went elsewhere for less, without a tracker.
ds. I'd recommend Chriss Knott Insurance (broker) they've been very competitive for me on recent cars.
Said company (who i was insured with un until a year ago) refused to insure me on my car.
Also my renewal via the non-singing man price comparison site (the one with a dragon wheeling a shopping trolley round) was....
wait for it..........
keep scrolling...........
Don't fall off your chair......
£11,564

They don't want your business so have quoted accordingly. HTH

From Sunday the Elise goes on a Fire/Theft and accidental damage policy. The NCB will transfer onto the Volvo. Said insurance company quoted me my NCB on the said shed. I asked the bird if she had made a mistake "No sir, this is the price of the quote. Will you be paying by card?...Sir...sir....Sir...." I have theory that insurance companies deliberately price themselves out of the market when they are not seeking business from a particular area of the market.
I think they like to spread their risk over various types of drivers, cars, and locations. If they have too much of one type of risk on their books they price accordingly.

When I had a Volvo, I found that the overall best deal I could find was with Volvo Owners Insurance, which is run by Royal Sun Alliance. Not necessarily the cheapest quote, but they include things like letting you put a courtesy car on your insurance without charging an admin fee, and no charge for a green card. Been a couple of years since I've used them, though.

Absolutely, I have no doubt that this is why the quote the OP has is so high. I think they like to spread their risk over various types of drivers, cars, and locations. If they have too much of one type of risk on their books they price accordingly.

Absolutely this, probably why they quoted me £6,000 on the Mondeo (TPFT) compared to another company's offer of £1200. If they don't like the look of you, they'll fob you off in a way that's slightly less blatantly discriminatory than saying "we're not interested in insuring you". But only slightly.I think they like to spread their risk over various types of drivers, cars, and locations. If they have too much of one type of risk on their books they price accordingly.
Something about Volvos this year it seems, just renewed the policy on my S60, wife as main driver, 9 yrs NCB, last year was £220, this year cannot get it any lower than £360 on goconfusedmeerkat, tried AF and Chris Knott and both said £360 was a excellent price and they couldnt get close..
Not looking forward to doing the GTV next year..

On proposal forms dont they ask have you ever been refused cover
£11,000,000 quote is not refusal of cover so I'd prefer that to the other alternative
I think there's a difference between refusing to quote and being refused cover. I imagine you would be refused cover if you were a convicted insurance fraudster and the like, not because you're high-risk.£11,000,000 quote is not refusal of cover so I'd prefer that to the other alternative
This year I've been worried about my renewal (due 17th November) for my V8 Audi S4. Last year about £750, lots of talk of people getting minimum 25% increases in their policies, plus the cheapest I could find on Confused.com etc was £1300. So it looked like it was going to be an expensive November.
Just received my renewal this morning, through Adrian Flux (the PH sponsors).
£662.
Bloody brilliant
So, to all the negativity, I've no idea how I've done it (I did turn 30 3 weeks ago, not sure if that helps) but I'm happy with my policy this year.
