Hello

I am toying with the idea of a yank pickup to replace my Jag.

Just wondering if anyone has real life experience of the Dodge Ram SRT10 like this

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1489784.htm

Or the Ford F150 Harley like this

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2126545.htm

Ok they are LHD drive does this prove much of an issue in UK ?
What are servicing costs like?
Road rent, my Jag is currently £245 per year
Insurance, I guess is large numbers group 20 or what ever the top is now ?

Having looked at the sizes they seem a bit bigger then my Jag but similar to a Range Rover of a Transit

Cheers

Tax wise, Yank imports (non-UK models only) are taxed using the old system, so none of this c02 band rubbish to worry about

The biggest problem is someone will always want to tell you you could have got something "better" for the money, and 90% of the time their suggestions will be BMWs.

SRT-10 is in another league to the F150 in performance terms.

Personally if I was importing a US truck into the UK I'd go for as late a model Hemi Ram as I could afford.

F-150 would be my choice.

The ram is more outlandish looking while the F-150 is more subtle and classy IMO. The F-150 also has a much nicer interior and just generally better ergonomics and fit+finish all round.

The ram will leave it for dust in the performance category though.

Having looked into this myself, I think you will find that they are considerably bigger than a Range Rover and all but the longest LWB Transits.

The sheer size alone is what put me off having one in the UK.

If you are curious about the size, hire an LWB Transit or Sprinter or whatever for a couple days park it where you would normally park the Jag (driveway or street etc)and also use it for your daily commute, school run, trips into town or the shops and see how you get on. wink

SRT-10 then with a manual shift and regular cab.

They are insanely quick for something that large.

SRT-10 for me. If you're going for it, go for it. No point in half measures imo.

I have a sneaky feeling if you get the F150 and see an SRT-10 go past, you may regret your purchase a little.

Both examples of great OTT motoring. I'm sure you'll enjoy either.

for what its worth, ive not driven/owned either however my dad used to own an SRT10 and had a F150 & a F150 Lightning and ive been a passenger in both

if it were me buying one and could afford the fuel it would be the SRT10 any day, prefer the looks and the engine sounds very nice biggrin

Not driven an SRT or Lightening but have driven both models (Ram with a Hemi and the V6) and the F150. I much prefered the Ram on the whole, it just seemed a nicer place to be.
