Hello everyone!

My dad has recently purchased an MX-5 (Another convert! hehe ) here in the UK for a little bit of open-top summer motoring next year, only problem is he lives near Clermont Ferrand in the Auvergne, France.

His original plan was to fly over and me and him were going to drive it back, but due to workloads we are finding this pretty difficult to fit in. So as I know from past topics there are a few people who ship cars that frequent these forums (And I would always rather put some business the way of a fellow PHer than some random). I thought I would post a thread on here to see if anyone in the car transportation field fancies fielding a quote, or if anyone has any advice.

Basically the car is in Stone, Staffordshire, and we want it taking in November at some point (Though that is flexible), not driven, so it needs to be trailered (It can be driven, it's just he would prefer it transporting on a trailer/similar).

He has already thrown the spec onto Shiply (sp?), but if anyone here has any advice or can point me in the direction of a PHer that does this kind of thing I would be eternally grateful!

Thanks in advance!

(Note to Mods: Please feel free to move/close if required, I don't think that this is advertising, I see it more as PH favouritism hehe ,but I will happily stand corrected)

Hi great idea have you looked into registering it in france ? I looked into storing and running my Eunos roadster in france to be told as it was never approved for use in france it was impossible to reregister with the prefecture? If you have found a way round this I would be very interested.
Good luck

Steve - I would have to ask my dad - he has lived over there for quite some time and has had (In the past) other UK registered cars over there, both re-registered on French plates and other UK cars that have been back to the UK for MOT etc. I will let you know when I have spoken to him.

I'd be happy to drive it over for expenses.

Thanks for the offer - he really wants it trailering though - if we don't have any joy (Though he has had some good quotes from Shiply, this was kind of a 'offer it to the PH brethren' thing) then I will drive it over at Christmas.

Thanks again though!

Though as a less flippant repsponse smile , it does help thanks. I read it back and wasn't sure - looks like I opted for the incorrect phraseology.

Pm me, I have a mate with a P38 on LPG combo, who does this for a bit of a hobby, took my XJS to Holland, taken loads of stuff to France..as we have a mutual friend who deals in classics in Nice, and he just moved a car for fellow PH'r 300bhp who will no doubt vouch for him. It is however much cheaper to drive it !

I am likely to have to travel to France for work at some point in November. I live in leicester so a short hop to collect. If you were happy to pay for trailer hire I would tow it over for the price of a meal out at my destination. Pm me if your other options don't come off.

That'll be due to the Eunos not having a European Cetificate of Conformity. A CoC will be easy to get for a UK spec MX5 making life a lot easier.

We deal with a couple of people in France who manage to register American vehicles so it is possible, it's just not easy.

Thanks for the offer! I will keep the thread updated as to the outcome, just pending on a few responses from others at the moment, but will bear this offer in mind!
