Ok, so last week I ripped the pipe clean from the flange it is welded to on my car rolleyes so as of tomorrow I will be running a decat pipe.

Obviously this cat has taken a great bloody impact so I'm guessing all the fartsy stuff inside will be pretty buggered, I know they do break up inside when they are hit hard enough. I also know they contain some precious metal (Platinum?) so I imagine they do have some scrap value. does anyone know roughly what this might be?

And secondly, anyone know of anywhere in yorkshire that buys scrap cats?

Thanks and meow.

Just chuck it in a wheelie bin. Watch out for CCTV cameras though.

So only about 3 grams of platinum in the cat? I know its about £20 a gram at the moment.

I'll try a scrap yard tomorrow, cheers mat!

Probably more than 3 grams but they've got to get it all out before it's worth anything. It's not just like a little lump of it in there, it's amongst loads of weird ceramic stuff.

Would there be a way of collecting it yourself?

I have a week off with very little planned!

No idea but worth a punt. I knocked the guts out of one once, before I knew they had any value, and noticed some shiny bits amongst all the ceramic honeycomb stuff that came out.

I guess if you ground all the ceramic stuff into dust then heated it with a blow torch you might be able to separate out a little puddle of platinum somehow.

Don't leave it lying around - travellers will have it away in no time at all - get it weighed in

Still on the car at the moment! I'll probably call somewhere on my way back from the exhaust place! driving

Turbo is suprisingly alright (on the right) although it was blowing a little.
