Anyone else noticed now that the dark nights are fully in , the selfish attitude that quite a few drivers display in regards to dipping their headlights.
I've always considered myself a courteous driver and I always dip my headlights in advance of seeing another drivers headlights.
I have noticed a trend now though that a large portion of the drivers I meet on my daily 100 mile work commute adhere to a seeing the whites of their eyes policy, mainly in they'll dip only once they can see your car fully.
Not normally a big deal, unless you meet them in a corner , but for the sake of a second or two, you'd think they'd have the respect for fellow motorists to dip the bloody lights.
It's not particularly difficult to see that a car is coming the other way in the pitch dark from a while away.
And dont get me started on the morons who seem to think it's acceptable to switch back to full beam a second or so before they pass, just enought time for you not to react back but enough to boil the piss abit.
It's almost like a don't care about you attitude, as long as I'm alright.
Not much of a rant I know, but just an observation on what appears to be a growing trend. I'm sure it'll only get worse as well as more and more people get tired of it and react accordingly .

Same goes for people who think that full beam won't dazzle over the other side of the dual carriageway. That barrier in the middle of the road doesn't make any difference you tts! You're still blinding me. And the car in front of you.

Exactly! A portion of my drive includes a section of dual carriageway and I've always been puzzled by this behaviour.

When I had my Cooper I had 4 Rally style loghts fitted to the grill wired into the full beam I was very careful when to give it the full beams for fear of blinding people.

I tend to adopt the LMP style overtaking headlamp flash.. It seems to work quite nicely..

I do that if they have their front fog lights on.

Calm down dear!

Have you ever thought that it might just be a case of the other driver taking a second or two to compute that a car (you) is coming the other way?

Have you never been a bit slow in going on to dipped headlights yourself?

Does everyone on PistonHeads think that they are perfect and that the rest of the world is either stupid or out to get them?

I can understand that in the right conditions. Another pet hate of mine.

Can you let me know where your crystal ball comes from, mine is broken so I have to wait until I see lights approaching before I dip my lights..

If it takes you a second or two reaction time while driving may I respectfully suggest you hang up your driving gloves.

So how does that work in the switching back to full beam before going past though?
Notice the part where I mention selfish, not distracted or lacking enough observation to work out something's coming the other way.

So you find it difficult in the dark to work out that a car is coming the other way?
