M1 Luton Speed Cameras (Southbound)

Hi - there havent been any cameras either north or south since all the road works around luton on the M1 have finished. Saw some boxes tonight and at a couple of points speeds were being displayed.

I slowed to the 50 limit and everyone swamped me going past left and right and closing right up on me from behind, the next gantry was 40 mph absolutely impossible to get from lane 2 to lane 1.....!

I didn't see any flashes but really dont know if there was a box on the gantry I passed (too dark now!) does anyone know if these cameras are active - anyone got a ticket yet - will be well annoyed given I was more likely to cause an accident slowing down due to everyone else going so quick!

Also saw an enterprise rental van on a bridge on the M1 in Northants side door open and a single static camera (albeit looked like a video camera on a tripod) - any ideas what this might be?

Sorry - know it probably needs to be in a different forum but as I have only just registered it wont allow me to post to the speed forum.

No cameras that i've seen going from London to Leeds up or down the M1. Some of them have lines painted on road underneath, some don't. None have cameras though as far as I can tell. I usually pootle through just in case though. Plenty of people tonking past at 70+ though. You should be fine!

Think the boxes are up now..... and the different speeds displayed at 2 gantries..... 50 and 40, but dont think I have seen any variable speed limit warning signs like on the M25 so if a ticket was issued would it be enforceable....?
