to the 'red line' or rev limiter in your / her car? (or even beyond 5000 rpm)

Recently went on a trip to Scotland, and my missus overtook a couple of times, but persistently short shifted, leaving the car feeling 'bogged' down.

She'd also overtake in 3rd instead of 2nd, despite my protestations lol.

Her car is a Golf GTi turbo, so that has bags of low down torque, but mine is an A4 Turbo, which seems like it needs to be revved for best results.

Nope, 1.9 deseasal and she shouts at me for going over 3k revs when she's in the car.

She is scary though so I have to listen.

Never, however my Mum is even worse. She will barely rev past 2500 before changing gear.

She's got an "atomic" (sic) transmission (she used to have "Bimbo brakes", bless!) so it doesn't happen.

She does follow the vehicle in front far too close though - especially frightens me if I'm following her on her motorbike. Still - she'll only fk up once.

only when on a track,

otherwise she'll change at 6k on the road (7250rpm limit).

and she clings on for dear life if i take it to red line... even if i'm just accellerating along a slip road, as soon as i change gear she's ok.

my Wife has had a JDM DC2 before so she had to , just to get it to go anywhere, the she had a 350Z ,

im lucky as shes really into cars, in fact we met through a forum randomly enough!

my ex once drove my 924 turbo and seemed to be getting on ok with the dog-leg-first gear box... until she went to change from fifth into four.... SECOND!! CLUTCH IN CLUTCH IN!!!

Very rarely, her Mini CS has this thing that "advises" her on which gear she should be in to save fuel.

I encouraged her to red line my RS the first time she drove it, the rest of the journey was a bit white knuckle

No but what she has started doing is obeying the 'shift up' light like her life depends on it.

Now, if this was a suitably powerfull car it wouldn't be a problem but in a 1.2 Fiat over hilly country roads it's a little bit frustrating!

My wife can make a very fast car feel very slow.
Even under strict instruction to "floor it", the throttle still only gets pushed down about half way.

A girl I used to see a long time ago used to thrash the st out of her cars, however not by driving them fast.

She was one of those that wouldn't change gear until she had "used all of the current gear up"

I don't think she ever made it past 4th gear on the motorway.

Could be 1.8 and 2.0, although the 1.8's can have different turbos each way, with the K04 turbo needing that bit more pushing.

If I had a pound for the number of times a passenger has asked "doesn't it damage the engine to rev it close to the line?" I'd have a few extra pounds in my wallet.

Mrs Indi Pearl is on her second S2000 and yes, she does wind it up to 9,000rpm at every opportunity. However she is quite the oposite when given the NSX and short shifts. Her excuse is that it is a "big" car !!!!!!!!!!!!
