No a massive life changing issue, and i understand the myriad of reasons behind it but still gutted.

I had a definite budget for my insurance renewal. £1000/annum, to have me and my OH on my Impreza STI Wagon with a few mods.

It came in at £1229/annum with both of us and £1058/annum with just me. £58, and that £58 probably just made mine the cheapest Classic STI Wagon on autotrader in the next few weeks. And cheap cars with lots of mods and large insurance premiums are always so easy to sell.

Whats really tipped me over the edge is it has a misfire at the moment and needs new sparks/MAF sensor before i have to sell it.

Gutted, I will obviously still be looking around but A-plan were much cheaper last year and i don't expect it to have changed much. frown

And as this is a rant, and everyone knows no rant is complete without swearing, fk, fkity fk fk! s!

You can't stretch to £58?

Ring round a few! Try A-Plan and Chris Knott?

Failing that, an autotrader ad will cost £59! Don't go to the pub for a couple of weeks! Don't sell your car for the sake of £59!

Have you looked elsewhere...?

I achieved a £200 reduction, below the renewal offer.

My son achieved £1000...

Could be worse. Mine developed a slight misfire too which lunched a big-end bearing in double quick time.

have you tried some companies direct instead of the comparison sites or whoever you tried, search around a little try CIS, Admiral/ Elephant, just don't sell the impreza for the sake of insurance, you'r going to miss the boxer rumble

scratchchin is that the same discount that, on mentioning, they say in a distant voice "oh, we've already included that in your quote" when you haven't actually mentioned PH at all?

Also, Ive yet to go with a renewal price from any insurer without finding at least a 30% discount over their initial offer. They just send you a daft price in the hope you wont bother looking around, I assume a mind boggling amount of people just renew each year to save themselves 15 minutes hassle on the phone and confused.com

Anyway, try flux, they usually spank everyone in my experience and were bloody excellent when I smashed up my car ealrier in the year...

Do a massive ring around. Just because A-plan were cheaper last year means nothing, hey may have filled their quota for people in your risk group for this year.
Adrian Flux had been cheaper for me almost every year for the last 8 years, then this year they were 620GBP and I got it fully comp for 240GBP. Quite a difference for the company that are normally cheaper.

I know all this i have only just got the figure through but it has annoyed me royally, I will try other companies but the problem with the mainstream ones is the modifications, i'm already with A-plan (and have just requoted as new customer no difference except i need to pay 25% of the premium upfront) and flux were not confidence inspiring last year so not expecting much tonight, and i know £60 doesn't sound like much, but it is a sizeable increase and i was prepared to go up to £1000/annum. added to the family related flack i have been recieving about the running costs and it is that bit to much.
Nothing has been decided, but it is now a distinct possibility that i will start looking for another toy.

And doogz, sensible offer only. wink

Flux couldn't help me this year despite being very cheap two years ago.

I've gone for Footman james this year who were very very cheap.

Sky insuarance were also pretty competitive.

You need to speak to Gary Moulson at Keith Michaels, 0208 642 7868. Make sure you ask to speak to Gary though as he's an Impreza owner with specialist knowledge.

Definately ring around. My renewal which included a different car went up from £210 to £650. After using the phone I'm now paying £190.

Er, why not take a few of the mods off the car. Is a standard one cheaper to insure? (is there such a thing?!) Then you get to keep it, and can put the mods back on later when you can afford it? Or how about a reduced mileage on the policy?

Simple solution from where I'm sat would be to get quotes without certain mods and unbolt them where necessary to drop the quote
