why has my insurance doubled with no claims etc?
Discussion
so i got my renewal quote for my impreza, it was £800 last year, now the same insurers want £1600, with 1 extra years ncb and no accidents or claims.
even adrian flux who quoted me a few months ago now cant get near their original quote.
so i have managed to get it to £1100 using comparison sites but this is still way more than i want to pay for a car that i dont use much. angry.

You may not have claimed, but lots of other people have.
This ^^^It baffles me that people don't realise other peoples accident affect your premiums i.e. more accidents =higher premiums.
if you are expecting that then you baffle me.

insurance companies are telling me there has been a 37% increase in insurance costs this year, so looks like everyone will be getting hit with this.
Most of us already have been. The steepest rise was just after the snow last year, although there has been a general trend upwards as well due to the increase in personal injury claims. rb5230 said:

They must have specifically targetted certain groups, because on 3 cars I've done so far this year they've either stayed the same or dropped slightly.rb5230 said:

my last renewal was very nearly double despite gaining an extra year of NCB
(I lost mind through not having a car for some years)
I called up to ask why and was told it was because I'm a young driver... slight pause... 'oh you're 37' she added, 'it can't be that then'
I said i'd like to cancel the renewal as I'd be going elsewhere
She said not to cancel it until i'd made sure i could get it cheaper as their price was VERY competitive, I said OK, I'll be back in touch
5 mins later I call back 'yes i'd like to cancel, yes I got it cheaper elsewhere, no not cheaper than the renewal price, cheaper than the low price you gave me last year, thank you bye bye now'

Sorry OP shouldn't laugh but i can feel your annoyance. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
right after lots of quotes not getting near my last years price, i got called by a company due to going on price comparison sites and got it sorted for £888.
RCIB hustled an underwriter and got it down from £1100 to £1050 and then to £888 with a slightly higher excess.

Just renewed the insurance on two of my cars. One has gone up from £505 two years ago to £675 this year. The other one was £205 last year and the renewal for this year was £9999. I assume they didn't really want the busniess.
Still couldn't get it cheaper than £270 anywhere else though.
Still couldn't get it cheaper than £270 anywhere else though. My insurance has decreased from £800 down to £600... Just the kind of car i suppose, for some strange reason i'd be cheaper insuring a ITR than I am a CTR. Or a Golf 1.8 GTI is more expensive than the Leon Cupraa and the Audi A3 With the same engine but more power output...
Reason mines gone down is probably due to the fact that i'm now 21 with 3 years ncb.

*sigh*
Can we not have a sticky or something on this?
If I had £1 for every "My insurance has gone up, it's a travesty" thread I'd be able to use it to pay my own premium...
Lots more people have claimed and lots of people get like-for-like hire cars and injury claims.
All this has ramped up the cost of insurance. Thread over.
