Carnage Predicted On UK Roads Today

Friday PM rush hours in November are worst for accidents. Flee early...

Go home after lunch. We'll tell the boss...
Go home after lunch. We'll tell the boss...
PHers have our official permission to leave work early today, thus avoiding the evening rush hour and almost certain carnage.

Mixed in with all those random press releases that we tend not to bother you with, today's email-bag brings us the news that drivers are more likely to have an accident during 5-6pm in a Friday evening rush hour in November than at any other time.

The stats have been er, crunched by Accident Exchange, which calls itself a 'leading accident management company'. (We assume what they really mean is that they manage the aftermath of accidents, but you never know.)

Either way, this is the chance we've been waiting for to say it...

I'm not convinced the variation is statistically significant anyway.

I agree with you in purely mathematical terms but it never ceases to amaze me how appalling some people's driving is when the clocks change and they're suddenly driving home in the dark. And the number of cars that you see with one headlight out at this time of year beggars belief rolleyes

Well, for me it happened yesterday morning 3/11/10 at 9.15am.
Silly cow pulled out right into my path.
Made much more of a mess of her car than mine luckily.

OK, so help me here guys...

I've got to be at a shoot in Langton, Lincs by 0910hrs in the morning- I would be finishing work in Guildford, Surrey around 6pm this evening (I do have the option of a hotel near the shoot for tonight)

So- do I brave the traffic straight after work and get totally fecked over, with 5 or 6 hours of clutch work in the Porker...or do I go home tonight, get an early night and leave early doors (say 5am?) and enjoy the clear run up north, giving it some stick (scameras allowing)...

Hmmm.

Just don't break the speed limit. Everyone knows you won't crash if you stay under the posted limit

And the number of silver or grey cars (i.e. 90% of them) that don't use headlights on the school run home. Despite the rain. And the twilight.
