Any suggestions? I'm guessing plugs / leads /dizzy cap /rotor arm.
As it's a 5 pot leads and plugs aren't particularly cheap as they are generally a 4 pack.
Reading a few forums it looks like plugs are most likely, any advice?

My V70 had a miss-fire the other day - Was a cracked plug. I've also seen them split the rotor arm causing an arc.

Does it do it all the time or when warm?

leads wise Delco leads are cheap and just as good as genuine (also I've run both of mine on standard leads from the 2.0 engine with no ill effects whatsoever)

If you're in the Norwich area I have a spare set in the workshop if you wanted to try them to see if it cures them?

In Northants, very kind offer though. Will buy a set of plugs tomorrow.
Misses all the while, not to bad off boost and on light foot will run through. Foot to the floor it boosts up the coughs and fart like asbestosis victim then clear and whips round to the limiter, then drop back in the cough zone again. Hopefully a set of plugs will sort it. Looking at the MOTs it's only done 3k in the last year so may just need an italian tune up.

Sounds like it might be over boosting and blowing out the spark, hence the misfire? Could also be a fueling issue, partially blocked fuel filter or even a weak fuel pump.

Still misses off boost so don't think it's fuelling.
Blowing out the spark? Is this possible?

They sometimes run like a bag of st when the cam sensor fails - but we're talking barely driveable and it tends to be early 850s that suffer it the most.

Genuine Volvo plugs are actually quite cheap at the moment so might be worth a look. Can't remember the exact price as I get trade discount because we have a trade scheme going with our local dealer but I think they were actually cheaper than the equivilent NGKs

Starts and ticks over perfectly, so wouldn't think cam sensor? Is there a way of reading fault codes without a dealer? (No engine lights showing issues).

You need an obd II reader aand they can store faults without bring on the management light, faults are displayed as a numeric code - for example on V70's 1-1-1 means no faults - Readers are cheap (£35 quid ish) but it sounds ignition related - might be worth taking out the plugs and checking the leakage current barrier/insulator (white bit) for cracks

Will try replacing plugs first i think. If services have been adhered to they are about due anyway.
If as suspected it's been puttered round for the last year they're probably pretty black.

Ordered a set of genuine Volvo plugs from eBAY, after much forum hunitng it seems the general concensus is that Volvo ones are best.
