hi guys, just after a car to thrash around in really - I have given up on having anything nice.

walking back to my car I see another car park next to it and the woman opens her door into my car and 'rests' it on my car whilst putting her weight on the door when getting out - I couldn't be bothered saying anything as no damage was done. I sat in the car for 20 mins reading the paper and the woman came back and opened her door into my car again but this time it hit with a real thud - i gave her a look of disgust and she just muttered a muted apology and drove off. Anyway, I don't really think nice cars (other than for shows etc) are worth it anymore.

so, i've always been into my rs turbos and old skool hot hatches (GTE's, 205's, 5 Turbos etc) and I'm thinking about something along those lines and it has to be quick. Not bothered if it's stripped out etc just needs to be road legal and get me to the gym and back and small local journeys.

I want it to be nice and respectable but not a show winner as that defeats the purpose. It does need to be reliable. I'd quite like a sleeper.

so other than the obvious 172's, VTS' etc is there anything else you can suggest from the classifieds.

For example I'd quite like a bit of a 'sleeper' so something with a supercharger conversion etc etc but I want it to look standard ish not 'chavved' up.

smile

Sure bertelli1 will be along soon with his suggestion of MK2 Golf GTI with 20vt engine thumbup and I would suggest similar. Any form of MK2 GTI is my choice. Loads around for reasonable money, but also a lot of overpriced crap so make sure you do your homework.

Was the first thing that sprang to mind! Leave it looking stock but take your pick of (easy) power outputs of between 150 and 300 BHP.

In a car that weighs a ton.

Octavia vRS - it's essentially a golf - but without volkswagen pricing

There must be a nice Mk1/early mk2 lying around in classifieds - they chip something chronic depending on age - it;s a 1.8T/2.0Tfsi VAG lump running in 180/200bhp trim. You can even get em with the fuel of the Devil, Ok I'm a little biased - just bought one myself as a daily.. Cracking Motor.

Simes.

Loads of em out there http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?g=1&...

If you're not bothered about it, then presume looking £1-2K budget?

You could get a MG ZR 160VVC for that, newish.
Also, Honda Civic 1.8VTi-S, also consider Citroen Saxo VTS.

If the big issue is people banging into your cars, though, why not park at the far end of the car park? Or get an old Jeep Cherokee and dispense a little payback with your own door on the ignorant twunt?

yeah budget not much of an issue - up to say £5k-£6k otherwise i'll start wanting to 'look after' it too much.
I was parked as far away from the door as I could - she still parked next to me!
saxo VTS' look cheap

i'm just googling mk2 golfs now!

Corolla T Sport Compressor - very low key, rare, supercharger already fitted, capable of being tweaked to considerable power outputs, peerlessly reliable, won't attract the wrong sort of interest.

Just a left fielder to consider.

OP - I like your thinking. There is certainly something to be said for having a car like this.

I'll be watching with interest wink

There are some tidy looking ep3 civic type-rs for around 5k. I think I'd be tempted by one of these.
