The seller of the car says that these kits were built back in the 1970s and that this particular example uses the frame, floor and running gear from the Beetle, inclucing the twin-carb 1600cc motor - allegedly given a thorough overhaul before the car was put into storage in 1994.
If you fancy getting your hands on this rare piece of mutant automotive history, the seller has it advertised on various US classified sites (including this one, called collectorcarsforsale.com) and is asking you to part with betwen $4,000 and $6500 (£2500-£4000).
If you're reading this and you do take the plunge, do let us know what a truncated, rear-engined Camaro based on a Beetle chassis is like to drive. We'd be genuinely fascinated to find out...

1970 ½ Chevrolet Camaro mini car This is a one piece fiberglass miniature Camaro body on a Volkswagen chassis/frame/floor/running gear (drive train). This is a two seater mini Camaro that is street legal. It is an actual car that you can legally drive on the road. It is a smaller scale than the actual Camaro. It is shorter and lower than the real Camaro. These were kits that were made back in the seventies that were purposely built to go with a Volkswagen Beetle donor car. The donor car was a 1976 Volkswagen with a 1600 engine. The engine has dual carbs and was freshened up recently.From what we hear, these are extremely rare cars and there are very few remaining today. It is very hard to find information on these too. The only cars that I ever found (by searching the internet) were unfinished basket cases. This car is complete, looks good, runs good, and drives good. It was recently pulled out of storage. It was stored since 1994! Before that, it was very rarely used after it was built! There are very low hours and use with this car since it was built. If you do not like tons of attention, then this car is not for you! People come running when they see this thing!! All ages and all types of people just love this car! Car people and non-car people love this thing! It is cool in the pictures and way cooler in person!The car has working lights, signals, wipers, and more. The convertible top snaps in place and has a channel in front similar to a boat canvas fastening procedure. The car looks good either way with the top off or on. The top is in excellent condition and like new. The interior is perfect and like new.The car rolls on actual 15x8 Corvette rally wheels which are in excellent new condition . These really make the car stand out. The wide fenders are part of the one piece body. They were not added on later. They really make the car stand out and enhance the over all look. The flares work perfect and look great with the Corvette wheels. There are wheel adaptors in place to allow the GM wheels to fit the Volkswagen bolt pattern. The tires are in excellent condition too and are not worn.The paint is original. It is a gel coat metallic finish that is in great shape. It is a large metallic flake paint similar to ski and fishing boats. There are some chips here and there from over the years but nothing bad. Any paint flaws or chips are simply due to age or storage over the years. The car is in great shape and shines nicely. The interior is excellent/like new condition and needs nothing. There is a radio but it doesn?t work. I plan to play with it a little to see if I can get it to work. If I can?t get the radio to work, I have a late model GM radio that the winner can have with the car if they want it. It is a factory OE Pontiac AM/FM/CD stereo w/ EQ.The top, gauges, glass, lights, chrome, wipers, and trim are all in excellent shape. They all work as they should too. The car fires up immediately every time and runs great! It runs very strong and tight. It has a really cool sound to it too. It shifts nice and tight like it should. When driving this car you quickly realize that there is very little time on the car since it was built. It drives great and is an absolute blast!! The speedometer and gauges work great. It does have real 1970 Camaro lights and bumpers. New battery recently. The brakes feel strange after a long storage period. Maybe air in the system?? The front driver's side locks up early sometimes too when braking. They should be adjusted and/or looked at before long drives. Sometimes it is a full pedal and sometimes it goes to the floor but comes does back. The car is very light in weight and this really adds to the driving fun! The car zips really quick and nimble. It is super fun to drive!! This car is low, fat, and cartoon like. It almost looks fake or like a toy. It has the carnival / fun house mirror reflection look to it. It just demands your attention when you see it. It grabs people instantly and draws them to it. Everybody wants to know about it. Most people think it?s a real 1970 Camaro that was chopped and shortened. The reactions are endless and hilarious. Everybody smiles and wants to know more about it.The car does have a title that was based on the Volkswagen running gear. It is registered and titled as a 1976. That was how the kits were titled and it is the original proper title/registration. It's clean, clear and true. Has the Volkswagen floor pan and tubular frame work making up the frame. It drives incredibly well for what it is. Drives straight, tight, and fun!! Just an absolute blast to drive and an awesome experience to man the wheel of this thing. FUN FUN FUN!!! All while smiling ear to ear!!! :) :) :) The car does not have doors. It is a one piece body so you have to climb over the side to get it the car... or jump in like the Duke boys!! The car would look great with side pipes. They could easily be functional too because the exhaust now exits on both sides in front of the rear wheels. I don't know anything about who built the car, but they did a great job. There were no shortcuts and no shortage on details. This car was built right and it shows. The people that we bought it from said the engine was overhauled while it was in storage. It was an expensive overhaul and thorough. The car runs super strong and tight. And again... it sounds awesome!! This car is begging for side pipes and black rally stripes. I wanted to add both but never made time to do it. That is a exhaust cut out that is part of the body. It was purposely designed and built this way new from the mold for an exhaust pipe exit spot. The original builder of this car opted for dual exhaust exiting under the car in front of the rear wheel wells instead.

Purely because it isn't TRYING to look identical to a real Camaro, it's all very light hearted. I want 
' and the like, but this is the FIRST TIME that an article on PH has genuinely made me laugh out loud.
That car is a hoot. I'd like it just so I could turn up among the testosterone of a Camaro/Pony meet and park in the middle...
