We have had the best and worst cars

Now for what is the dullest car on sale today.

Which car do you find utterly dull, less exciting then your dishwasher a car which you really really have no interest in.

A car that will put you to sleep.

I nominate the 4 door bottom of the range A4 diesel in resale grey

It's probably alright to drive, but it's biggest problem is that..

I feel bad for Vauxhall/Opel/GM/whatever, they try to make exciting cars but just never seem to quite get there.

The Corsa, Astra and Insignia are not bad motors, far from it really. They just don't excite.

Almost anything with a vauxhall badge that isn't a sporty special. They seem to have taken the essence of other euro econoboxes and passed all the features like styling, handling, interiors though a special 'drab machine' to remove any edginess.

I was stuck behind a new grey astra this morning actually. Whilst stifling back the vomit, I noticed they'd actually made a colour which was like grey, but it had a sort of brownish hue to it in sunlight. Yes, that's right - only Vauxhall could possibly take battleship grey and make it more boring. Audi must be kicking themselves for missing that shade.

The Nissan Tiida

Dealer networks are actually importing them as they're not officially in the line up in the UK, they actually feel that with all the cars sold in the UK we really need a dull uninteresting impractical small saloon car that doesn't drive or handle very well.

There's more than a hint of Renault about that front end.

I think I'd nominate the Toyota Auris.

A perfectly worthy car. But you couldn't call it exciting, either visually or to drive.

hehe

I suppose we could say that they are good at making dull cars? Is that somthing marketing could take hold of and expand on?

At least they don't rust like they used to.

Ah but being not an offical import instantly removes some dullness with some added rarity which makes it 100 times more interesting the an german diesel.

As a true petrolhead will look at that in a traffic jam and what the hell is that? which will never happen with a mass market car

Maybe I'm missing the point then, the Nissan Tiida is for someone who likes the Renault Clio but finds those svelte hatchback looks just too damn racey.

No just the electrics or engine have died way before the rust takes hold

They actually make a Clio saloon, I think they are built in Turkey.

It looks crap too.

Anything sold as a Dodge in the UK (can anyone actually remember any of the model names?), square bland and hewn from a solid block of plastic - and their marketing slogan is 'we build funhouses', oh dear..

I don't actually mind Dodge, especially the Avenger. It injects a bit of old-fashioned aggression and, dare I say it, 'fun', into a repmobile genre obsessed with trying to fit in, appear 'professional' and 'businesslike' (ie, humourless, generic and boring) and generally toe the line. I quite like the fact that there is, in existence, a bit of hope for photocopier salesmen, that in the right colour might make him feel like he works for some baddie in a Hollywood blockbuster.

X-Type 2.0d

Imagine owning any of these cars, in a nice shade of re-sale asphalt grey.

I'd rather boil my own head.

ETA Whatever happened to the X-Type? It started out as a vaguely interesting car, with a choice of 2.5 or 3.0 litre V6 engines and 4WD.
It ended its days as a FWD four-pot diesel repmobile confused

Anything by BMW.

Yes, honestly. They just leave me cold. Especially the M3. Too much nannying from the car.
