V-Power - any first time users today?

I used to run BP Ultimate in my old Alfa as it made a difference but having tried Tesco 99 in my '10 MX5 and not noticing any difference whatsoever I've just been running it on normal Tesco U/L.

However - have availed myself of the 5p off today and blow me if I can't feel a difference! I'm sure it's more eager to pick up from low revs and smoother lower in the rev range.

Is my arse dyno telling me fibs or what?

Which fuels? Normal U/L and the V-Power? Well.. I ran the 5 almost dry and filled up to the tune of 48.8 litres (50 litre tank). Done about 30 miles so far.

I went to fill up today, but the garage was close. I'm running on fumes as I was holding out until today to save a few pennies. I hope they're open on my way back from work tonight.

It'll take several tanks for the knock sensor etc. to adjust to the new fuel.

I went to the Shell near me and it was 127.9p, I thought it was supposed to be 5p off! If it was its normally 132.9p, never have I seen it that high, maybe this particular branch wasn't participating.

I was also suspicious of cost.

Normal Shell 95 was 116.9 - I paid 119.9. Is V-Power really 8p/litre more expensive?

Still definitely a difference though, much smoother sub 2k under load.

Mine had -5p balloons hanging off the pumps. Still surprised if it's 8p/l more expensive than normal.

The one down by me was on the list (list from there website) that shell had on the promotion yet I had no discount so ended up paying £6 more for the fill up.

They also once refuse to take my money off voucher from points becuase it was 1 minute pass the use by date, which was not my fault as I waited 10 mins before the pump was turned on due to the guy chatting inside not noticing me standing there, said he didn't hear the beep.

The voucher was £18.

I put a 5er in last night to last till today, and it was 1.259 an normal was 117.9

Put some in the ST220 today where I've previously been using normal unleaded. I'm gonna run a few tankfuls through and see if it makes a difference to anything

do these fancy fuels have an effect on cars with carbs without retuning things?

As an aside my car has felt more eager this week - mainly cos the wind was behind it and the air temp has been cooler

To be fair I've been meaning to try it for a while, this just happened to happen at the time where I needed to some fuel

Be buggered it is, unless your ECU has the slowest-reacting adaptive parameters known to man. The ECU is checking the lambda signal and adjusting the timing every single power stroke. Mine sorts itself out with 10 miles, plug the laptop in and you can see the trace reacting as you drive. Admittedly it's an aftermarket ECU, but the engine is a stock GM Z18XER Ecotec and uses all the standard sensors.
