What are your opinions of the new London Routemaster bus. I know it will never be the design icon that the original is. Also what is the silver frame thing attached to the top left of the bus? I've seen this on other double deckers and have never figured out what it is,

it's probably a branch guard to stop low trees smashing the windows...ETA: I like the look of it. Looking forward to seeing one and having a ride.

I saw this yesterday being launched by Boris, and it left me with some questions.

In addition to the seating, it is approved for about 25 people standing. How is this possible? What would happen in an accident?

If you transported people in your own private vehicle in this way, I think you'd be in trouble.

I must hate it as it is not a V8 and petrol

Isn't this the rule of pistonheads

It looks okay but apart from trying to jump on the 'modern nostalgia' bandwagon what is the point?

Modern London buses don't seem to have an easy life as it is and look well and truly knackered after 10years, how long are they expecting these to last?

Whats the advantage over one of these?

No, you are OK, it is RWD and must therefore be akin to an 'ultimate driving machine'.

It looks more like a tribute to a Bristol VR to me.

What an odd question. Most buses are rated for quite a few standing passengers but we don't hear many stories of people being killed on them except for suicide bombing incidents. Fairly slow speeds, high visibilty, well trained drivers and bus lanes are probably responsible.

They're building five. Yes, five.

Then it's up to the private bus companies. If they decide that they don't want to buy and run them, that's it.
