I've noticed this year the industry has switched over to insurance groups 1 - 50 instead of 1-20. Is there an easy way of converting the old style groups into the new ones and vice versa? E.g. what would a car thats group 9 in new money be in old money? Thanks.

There isn't, a lot of cars have been re-classifed at the same time.

Surely there must be some way of roughly working it out?

As a very rough guide, the new group will be double the old one for an 'average' car. The new rating takes into account cost of parts, security, new price, as well as performance.

You can enter a car type and see its old and new ratings here: http://www.thatcham.org/abigrouprating/index.jsp?p...
