Typical -1 deg C and my heated screen/seat have packed in!

It was almost properly cold this morning, slippery underfoot, car crusted in ICE, -1 on the dash with the obligatory illuminated snowflake.
It's a time like these where having a rear screen demister/heater is essential, and a heated seat desirable. Unfortunatly neither of these are working on my car
It's a 2002 Volvo V70 btw.....don't supposed there's any beardy volvo boffins about with ideas on how to fix it? The dash switches illuminate as they should, but that's it!
