Thanks for the link to the free icescraper offer that ended yesterday Bob!Message to everyone
Just use a bottle of warm tap water, not hot water, just luke-warm water.
It takes 30 seconds to do all the windows on a car. No scraping required just pour the water.
I have been defrosting screens using this method for 20 yrs and have never had any problems.
If its really cold like minus 10 deg' you might need two bottles as it will freeze over again if you are not moving.

Heated front + rear screens, heated mirrors, can of de-icer and cheapo scraper.
Turn all the gizmos on, spray the side windows and scrape them, by this time most of the ice on the front + rear will have melted, simply brush it off with scraper. Total time = about 2-3 mins.
I've seen the future

use my 'in event of hostage situation detrimental to the company call this number' card. has/had a sharper edge than a credit card and i'm unlikely to get kidnapped.
i've started turning the car over then having breakfast/brushing teeth. this is by far the most labour saving way of doing it
as long as your car doesn't get nicked..

How about a pre-emptive strike - I use a silvery windscreen cover, tenner from Halfords last winter. Takes one minute to fit at night, and about 10 seconds to remove in the morning, et voila - a clear, frost-free screen. No need to waste diesel/CO2 on running the engine, no de-icer on the paintwork, no scraping away wondering if I'm removing the coating of Rain-X.
Of course, the next step is a (heated) garage... but significantly more expenditure is required.
