I unfortunately need 4 new tyres for the Volvo V70.

I'm on the cusp of clicking "buy" on these tyres

KUMHO KU31 ECSTA SPORT
225/45R17 94Y XL

Price is a huge consideration as a). I'm a bit skint and b).The car is also having a BIG service next week.

I can get the 4 Kuhmos delivered for £243 quid.

Any thoughts on this particular tyre, or any alternatives??

Not sure what size you require, but Falken FK452's get a good reputation too for a budget/mid level tyre.

But those Kumho's get a good rep too (if they're the ones I'm thinking about).

EDIT: just saw your sizes quotes above, doh.

A quick Google would have revealed that they're one of the better mid-range tyres.

I rate them.
Run them on the M3 and the 355.
I did an airfield day in the 355 not long after I bought them and I could get slightly more cornering speed out of them than my previous Bridgestone RE050's. They seem to be wearing reasonably as well.

They do tend to tramline a little.

Others to consider would be the Falken 452's, which also get good reviews.

Did that but posting on here gets more of an unbiased opinion.

And I might also get slagged off for only spending £243 on the only thing that keeps my car on the road and not sliding into a bus stop full of small children, if I'm lucky smile

Forgot all about that.

I'm buying them, can't go wrong for the price.

I went from these to 452's and both were fairly decent. 452's would definitely be my recommendation of the two.

Yep, they're ideal I found - ran them for years on our 850 T5, never a problem, lasted and gripped well.

FWIW I had KU31s fitted on a Discovery 3, did a couple of thousand miles on them in a range of weather conditions and thought they were pretty good.

Sorry, should have said really. Whilst I didn't think there was a huge amount of difference in grip levels in the dry, the 452's have the edge in the wet and feel a bit more sure-footed. Less tramlining and aquaplaning and a little less road noise.

Kumhos wore well and lasted a decent amount of time but the 452's seem to be wearing well too.

It all comes down to confidence, especially in the wet but both are definitely pretty decent mid-range tyres.

I had a set of those on my Subaru. Very good in both the dry and the wet IMHO.

If you are not too bothered about grip levels , they are ok . They wear well but wet weather grip with them on my 5 series is very poor compared with contisports .In fact very ,very poor . Read the very recent report in one of the car mags( can't remember which one as I read too many ) where they were rated very poorly .
That said I only got 6500 mls out of the previous contisport fronts before they feathered like 50p pieces - 12000mls on the Kumhos and they are fine. Rears are wornout thou at roughly the same mileage .
